So the game of the year nominees were announced yesterday, and I figured I'd share my opinions.

Game of the year nominatons:
Mario Odyssey
Zelda breath of the wild
Persona 5
Horizon Zero Dawn
Player Unknown's battlegrounds

My vote here is gonna have to go to Mario Odyssey. It's a huge game, tons to do, it's really fun, and it keeps me coming back for more, which is important, because most of the other games that I've played, I played an hour or 2 of just to try it, and then set it aside for when I have less of a backlog.

BOTW is an alright game, certainly the best zelda I've played to date (not that I've played that many :p) but it almost feels intimidating. You start the game up, do the first hour or so, and suddenly you have 900+ korok seeds to collect, over 100 items to take pictures of, lots of weapons to collect and upgrade, lots of shrines to do, side quests, and of course, the main quest, without any clear direction. After the game opened up, I honestly just didn't know what to do. Still a great game though, and I'd probably be just as happy if that won GOTY.

Next up we got Persona 5. I haven't played it, but from what I've seen it looks pretty great. The art style's pretty cool, although I can see why some people don't like it. The characters are pretty great too, and like the other games on this list, it's a pretty massive game. I've been doing my best to not spoil the game for myself, but I hear the story is really good as well. Probably my third pick.

I like how I wrote the nominations in the exact order I would put them in xD wasn't intentional. Anyways, 4th up is Horizon Zero Dawn, which I have played, but just a bit. From what I've seen, once again there's lots to do, however compared to the other games, it's a lot smaller I think (although there is good replay value). The story is pretty good too. And ofc theres the dlc, we'll see how good that is.

5th is PUBG. I'm a bit biased because I'm not a huge fan of shooters, but I honestly don't think it really deserves GOTY. It seems like a decent game, but I'm not sure that I could enjoy it. Oh well, opinions :p The early access thing doesn't bother me, honestly if an early access game won GOTY, good for them.

Next up is Best game direction. Nominations are:
Horizon Zero Dawn
Wolfenstein 2
Resident evil 7 biohazard
Mario Odyssey
and BOTW.

(For the rest of these I'm not gonna do my opinions on each game individually, unless I feel I really need to, this is gonna take too long.)
Anyways, my vote goes to Breath of the Wild for this one. I really like the way they took the game and made it into something unlike we've ever seen before. The other games are good, but all the ones except Horizon zero dawn (seeing that it isn't part of a series) are pretty similar to the other games in their respective series, and I like it when developers take risks and try something new.

Best Narrative:
Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice
Horizon Zero Dawn
NieR Automata
What remains of Edith Finch
Wolfenstein 2

Now this is a very tough one as I've played exactly one of these games... luckily the internet exists, so I can do some research. My vote goes to NieR Automata. I've heard the story is very good, and the fact that they can tell the same story so many different ways is pretty amazing.

Best art direction:
Cuphead
BOTW
Horizon Zero Dawn
Persona 5
Destiny 2

Another really tough question. Luckily this one doesn't require me to actually play the games much xD I honestly can't decide... There's the really old style of cuphead which is really nice, and then there's the really realistic graphics of Horizon Zero dawn, and all the stuff in between... I guess I'll go with Persona 5, I really enjoy the art style, as I said up in the Game of the Year voting.

Best Score/Music:
Cuphead
Persona 5
NieR Automata
BOTW
Mario Odyssey
Destiny 2

Another really tough one... why is this so hard? Anyways, there are 2 clear contenders here, at least imo. Breath of the Wild would have to be last I'm afraid. The soundtrack isn't bad, but a lot of the game doesn't have music at all, and it's pretty clear the focus is just the sounds of the environment, rather then music wherever you go. Next up are Cuphead, Destiny 2, and Mario Odyssey. Cuphead's gonna be in 5th place. The music's alright, but it's not my style :p Destiny 2 is in 4th place, wasn't expecting to like the soundtrack at all, but wow they did a good job with it. Really fits the game imo, and the music sounds very intense. Mario Odyssey is gonna take 3rd place, the music is soooo good. My favorite songs are the 2 vocal songs (jump up superstar in english and the other one in japaneese, if anyone cares) and the Bowser's kingdom music. The music fits the kingdoms so well, and it's amazing that they can pull off such a wide variety of music. That leaves 2, NieR automata and Persona 5. I thought I was gonna give NieR the #1 spot automatically, but I listened to the Persona 5 soundtrack, and it's also soooooo good. I'm really amazed by these games, since neither of the soundtracks are really my style of music, yet I like them more then all the other soundtracks... If I had to pick, I'd pick NieR, but luckily I can vote every single day and alternate my votes :P

Best Audio Design:
Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice
Odyssey
BOTW
Destiny 2
Resident evil 7 biohazard

I gotta go to school in like a few minutes so I'll keep this one quick. Breath of the Wild wins. Like I said for best music, breath of the wild doesn't have a ton, but where it really shines is just the sounds of the environment around you.

Best voice acting:
Ashley burch: Horizon Zero Dawn
Brian Bloom: Wolfenstein 2
Claudia Black: Uncharted The lost legacy
Laura Bailey: Uncharted The Lost Legacy
Melina Juergens: Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice

uhh idk I'm not really good at judging people's voices lol... They all win :P (from now on I'll just skip all the ones I don't have an opinion on I guess)

Best Ongoing game:
Destiny 2
GTA V
Overwatch
PUBG
Rainbow 6 Seige
Warframe

Anyone who knows me much probably knows what I'm gonna pick- overwatch. Overwatch is my life lol, not to mention, the events this year have been some of the best yet. I wasn't here for Year of the rooster, but I'm a fan of the skins, Uprising was great, anniversary was... pretty split tbh, although over time they've gone up in popularity (I hated almost all the skins at the start of the event, but a they've grown on me for sure), summer games and the recent halloween events were AMAZING. I thought they would slow down over time, but it's only been getting better and better.

Best mobile game:
Fire emblem heroes
other games

FE heroes best mobile game. Nuff said.

Best Handheld game:
Ever Oasis
FE echoes
Metroid Samus Returns
Monster Hunter Stories
Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly world

Fun fact: I haven't played any of these games, so my opinions are just gonna be from what I've seen.
Ever Oasis looks somewhat fun, but not really my type of game. Can't say it looks bad though, I think I could get a good amount of enjoyment out of it.
FE echoes looks great, maybe not quite as good as Fates and awakening, but I'm not sure :p It's certainly very different from the other ones I've played. This is most likely where I'd place my vote.
I've heard great things about Metroid: Samus returns. Not a huge fan of metroid myself (at least not the 2d ones, I've yet to try the prime series) but I think I might enjoy this one.
Monster hunter stories looks like a great game, I'd probably put this at #2. Story looks pretty interesting, and the gameplay seems cool.
Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly world: I'm not a fan of platformers, but this game looks fun. It reminds me a lot of Kirby's epic yarn, another game I enjoyed a lot. Poochy is very cute too :p

Best Action Game:
Cuphead
Destiny 2
Nioh
Prey
Wolfenstein 2

This is a tough one. I think Nioh looks really good, and I'd probably put that one first. Cuphead looks pretty fun, I'd probably put that second, followed by Wolfenstein 2, prey, and then Destiny 2.

Best action/adventure game:
Odyssey
BOTW
Horizon zero dawn
Assassins creed origins
uncharted lost legacy

I'd have to give this one to BOTW. I feel like odyssey isn't really an action/adventure game, and Horizon zero dawn feels more like a role playing game. As for the other two, haven't played them :/

Best RPG (My favorite category, yay!)
Divinity: original sin 2
FFXV
NieR Automata
Persona 5
South Park: Fractured But Whole

For this, once again, it's a tie between persona 5 and NieR automata. Honestly I'd be fine with either of the two winning. FFXV was a bit controversial, especially for the longtime fans of the series, and I'm not a huge fan of south park :p Divinity original sin 2 looks really good too, I'd put that in 3rd.

Best fighting game:
ARMS
Injustice 2
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite
Nidihogg 2
Tekken 7

I'd have to go with ARMS here. It's pretty unique, and there's lots of different customization that you can experiment with, plus they're releasing new patches adding new people to play as which is nice.

Best family game:
Mario kart 8 deluxe
Splatoon 2
Sonic mania
Mario + Rabbids kingdom battle
Super mario odyssey

My vote here would have to go to Mario kart 8 deluxe. The other games are mostly single player, so your family won't be enjoying them with you (although why you would want that, I do not know xD)

And the rest are kinda boring imo, so I'll just list what I'm gonna choose :p
Most anticipated game: Monster hunter world
Best Esports game: Overwatch

Oh, that's it... I don't know ANYTHING about the other categories... oh well, hope you enjoyed this xD
