On that year AD, the something special happened. For the first time, the Germany was unified under a common nation state (except for the Austrians and the Swiss) as the GERMAN EMPIRE.
It then went on to get its butt kicked in the First World War.
Why is this important? I don't know. But you know what? Germany is a cool country with a fancy language. They eat pork. They eat potatoes. Black Forest Cakes and beers. They gave us Wieners and schnitzel. They also gave us pretty Bavarian girls in snappy dresses who serve you beer on Oktoberfest.
