"That's A Wrap! is a new series in the Daily Bloggity which gives my personal opinions and ratings on movies that I have either backlogged or never had the chance to watch until now. Be wary in reading the entries as they may contain spoilers if you don't want the movie ruined for you if you haven't seen it. It's not exactly a review of the movie, but rather just things I like and don't like it about the movie. This will be a random series that will occur on days at 5PM Eastern Time."

Minions was one of those movies that I had absolutely no real expectations for walking into the movie. It was basically was presumed that the movie was just a way for Hollywood to make bank on the wild and unpredictable success of Despicable Me's little henchmen. And after watching the trailer for the movie for the first time - where I honestly thought that the movie was going to be completely in minion speech - I was left with a lot of mixed emotions. However, when I went to go see it in theaters with my girlfriend about a month ago, it actually wasn't as bad as I had initially thought it might have been.

Illumination did what any movie would do by playing off of the Minions strengths: combining the random speech of the henchman with the zany interactions between Stuart, Kevin, and Bob led to some witty and some corny moments in the movie. They overplayed the banana element of one of the minions (honestly couldn't remember which one, most likely Stuart I believe) and sometimes the jokes did fall flat. To me it overall just seemed like the studio was capitalizing on the success of their little creatures in order to make a quick buck.

Still, I did enjoy it. While there wasn't as many "laugh out loud" moments for myself, there was a good balance between character exposition and minion exposition without you wanting to pull your hair out from the minion's foreign and garbled language. And a thing I need to remember in the end is that Minions is a kids movie, and thus should be considerate of that fact.

I do hope though that Illumination does take a break before pumping out another Despicable Me/Minions movie. Many times in the past studios have torn beloved movie's into the ground in order to garner money (I'm looking at you Dreamworks with Shrek.) I feel that a studio should know when enough is enough, but unfortunately that does not work in today's Hollywood day and age. Nonetheless, Minions is a slightly above average movie that will successfully have your kid acting like a minion for the next few weeks while making you want to slightly pull your hair out (i.e. the movie does a good job entertaining kids that may or may not be as successful with adults depending on the person.)

Final Rating: 6/10

I went in not having seen Despicable Me or Despicable Me 2 and I'm more or less inclined to agree. Whilst it was an alright watch and there were definitely some funny moments, not something I'd recommend to anyone besides young children in a hurry.

It was simple, enjoyable, but nowhere near perfect or life changing - yes. haha.
