A very memorable trip of mine was when my family and I went to Italy. It was during a cold and lonely yet beautiful Winter.
We first went to the seaside town of Napoli (Naples). There was a bit of chaos during this part because our luggage didn't make it to us so we had only our carry-on and the clothes on our back for three days. Napoli was such a beautiful little town, and it was the first time I had seen a European city so intimately- the clothes hanging off of balconies right above panini shops and trattorias, people making their way through alleyways with bags of groceries, people roasting and selling chestnuts on street corners... It was really magical. We went on small road trips through the mountains and drove through small, rainy hillside towns that overlooked the sea.
The next stop was Firenze (Florence) which was my personal favorite, a city with many secret nooks and crannies that I found absolutely magical. It was raining the whole time and felt like a town out of my dreams. We visited lots of beautiful churches and religious sites, and appreciated the architecture. We also ate lots of gelato. One of my favorite parts was the small hotel we stayed in, in which we celebrated Christmas that year. I'll never forget the comforting way that the lobby smelled.
We also went to the leaning tower of Pisa, which I climbed with my dad. He's scared of heights, so he was clinging to the innermost wall the entire time. I'm sorry to say that I found it really funny...
The last town was the famous Rome. Now this was an experience! We saw all the famous sites, the Collosseum was absolutely amazing! It's MASSIVE. We saw the statue of Romulus and Remus too. So much to do and see in this city, we also went to the Vatican too!
The stereotypes about Italy aren't untrue, there was a panini and gelato store on every corner. It was amazing. We bought fresh ingredients from a local store and made our own spaghetti dishes, mozzarella cheese and tomato... They were sooooo good....
I recommend going to Italy at least once in your life, it's a beautiful and magical place.
