My top 20 favorite Pokemon: #20 Octillery

Posted February 4th, 2016 at 7:13 AM by Castform

I decided to do a blog series featuring a little something about my top 20 favorite Pokemon of all time. I think this will be fun so let's get started ^_^

#224 Octillery - Type: Water - Abilities: Suction Cups, Sniper, and Moody
Base Stats: HP 75, Attack 105, Defense: 75, Sp. Attack 105, Sp. Defense 75, Speed 45

So I want to start off my top 20 favorite Pokemon countdown by showing my love for everyone's favorite Octopus Pokemon, Octillery. For those of you who do not know, Octillery made it's debut in the second generation as an evolution of Remoraid. It was not a commonly used Pokemon due to the sheer abundance of Water Pokemon generally outclassing it. That said, I still find this Pokemon to be absolutely fantastic! What do I love about this Pokemon? Well for starters, it has a pretty unique design and is such a change from it's pre-evo, Remoraid, who is a simple boring fish. Secondly, it has a really cool signature move in Octazooka. Last but not least, Octillery has some really good offensive power to back up it's insane movepool which includes moves like Hydro Pump, Scald, Ice Beam, Energy Ball, and Rock Blast. This Pokemon has a ton of possibilities when it comes to fitting on a Pokemon team! It's speed though does hinder it a bit. Overall, this Pokemon is pretty fantastic and found a home on my list of favorites! It's a shame that this little guy doesn't get more love because I think that it truly is a cool Pokemon. :)

Competitive use:

During this blog series I will be listing off some competitive movesets for Pokemon that have competitive value. Not all of these Pokemon will be viable options but it is worth mentioning this for those that do have some use!

Bulky Special Attacker:

Octillery @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Fire Blast
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam

Here is a commonly used Octillery set when playing in some lower tiers such as PU or NU. It makes use of Octillery's movepool and equipping a Choice Specs lets Octillery hit as hard as possible. You won't be outspeeding much so investing in bulk opposed to speed gives you some survivability. You could also run a Life Orb/Choice Band set with something like Waterfall/Rock Blast/Bullet Seed/Gunk Shot if you'd like. :)

Water-type, this is obviously calling for me.

While you didn't mention the drastic difference between Remoraid and Octillery. I'd like to add that Remoraid is actually a gun that is inspired by the remora fish (yes not the other way round), which explains why it has access to the shooting moves like Bullet Seed, Energy Ball, Aurora Beam and so on.
https://goo.gl/S0NCnC (Remora fish which doesn't really look like Remoraid)

Octillery is actually a cannon, hence the strong offensive stats and relatively slow Speed.

So the evolution makes sense, actually perfect sense.

As for this blog entry, it's all good. Because it's related to Water-type

I think I used an Octillery once, I think in one of my nuzruns. It was a weird yet interesting kind of water mon, so it was cool I guess :D.
