Sorry, feel like babbling about notebooks/binders. Feel free to skip this.

I've written original stories as a hobby for years and years now. This means I have tons of projects. There's usually time to write during break, or sometimes after work if I'm waiting for a ride. This gives me time to start stuff on paper, and type it onto the computer later. Honestly, it's easiest to get the words flowing on paper anyway, since there's so much crap on the computer to distract me.

For a good 5 years, I've used some pretty sweet Five Star Notebooks because they're durable as hell. If they weren't that specific kind of notebook, it was a notebook with a hard plastic cover that couldn't get torn off like a cheap notebook does. Back when I first wrote, I used and abused my notebooks. So even now, I want something that's not going to break on me.

My problem now, though, is that I have too many stories. One day, I might want to write Story X, but the next might be Story Y, and Story Z after that... there are too many projects to designate even a 5 subject notebook to each and every thing I might decide to write. When I go to type stuff, I have to keep flipping around to find what I need. The particular style of Five Star notebook I use is expensive even in 3 subject, so I don't really want to shell out close to $10 for a 5 subject one if it doesn't solve all my problems.

So, I was out grocery shopping, and I got sucked into School Supplies. Even now, I can't resist shiny new school supplies... It was there I came up with an idea:

Use a binder!

Yeah, I know, so ~brilliant~. My gripe with binders when I was in school was that paper tears out too easily. Now they make reinforced paper. So, I figure, why not try that with a binder and dividers? That way, I can keep all of my projects together. It's easier to find what I last wrote, and it'll probably be easier to pull out sheets at a time as I type it, because my dual monitor set up doesn't leave much room on my desk.

My major reservation with it is that a binder takes up more space on a table, but at least the tables at work are big enough to fit it. Won't know for sure if it'll be good or not until I get back to work, and that's not for another 2 weeks.

Might try out a fancier binder later if a binder setup works. I picked up a basic 1" binder, which will probably get beaten up after a few months. Saw a nice zip-up binder at the store today and went "ooh I like that too!", haha. I get distracted too easily by shiny writing crap.


If you take anything from this blog, it's that if notebooks are for you... use ones with hard plastic covers! Paper covers are for cheap people. :p
also, college ruled paper or go home!

    I'm relieved that I am not the only one who feels that way! Last week I went to walmart to take advantage of the school supply sales and I always buy a box of college-ruled spiral notebooks (they were $.25 each, like COME ON. YOU CAN'T FIND A DEAL LIKE THIS IN THIS FRIGGIN TOWN). Half of the notebooks I use in that box are used for story-writing or just plain scribbling. I do end up finishing those stories throughout the year. I'm glad someone does the same thing I do. My mom is going crazy with my two totes of notebooks with stories. I refuse to throw them out.

    Binders are a great way to store everything, and it's even better if it's 1 1/2 and with POCKET DIVIDERS. Organization at its finest. yay!

    I have the same problem with not throwing out my notebooks. I have stuff that's over ten years old sitting in my large storage bin/bedside table. There's no need to keep them anymore because it's all old and terrible, but I can't stomach the thought of getting rid of them either. I've thrown out maybe 1 or 2 notebooks that absolutely could not be salvaged, but besides that, I'm still hoarding them. -_-;

    I didn't get pocket dividers, just basic ones. Wasn't willing to spend a bunch of money on something nice if it wasn't going to work. If it does, I'll probably upgrade to a fancier binder setup, haha.

    Or just go fancy and buy Black N' Reds, those were the best darn notebooks. I buy them every semester for classes.

    I do have this problem on buying new moleskins before I ever finish the previous one, though, so I can relate in a way. x_O
