My senior year in high school - mind you I'm a sophomore in college now - I had this great friend of mine who I would have to say is probably the first girl I actually ever loved. Probably still love to this day as a matter of fact. Beautiful in ever way and she was one of those people that when you see them sad would actually make you feel sad as well. She had a boyfriend at the time - figures - who I didn't really think much of. However, he ended up cheating on her and literally ended up breaking her heart. She would come in day after day tears in her eyes and obviously I wanted to do something for her. Not as a rebound mind you, just as something that any friend would do. So I'd go over in the middle of the night at times to comfort, to tell her that everything was going to be alright; tell her that there are other, better guys out there for her. And honestly, I felt good knowing that she had a person she could turn to in these times. Eventually though - unfortunately - they ended up getting back together. This was probably...right before the end of senior year. Obviously, I was a little upset by this but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I just wanted to see her happy again. However, a few months pass and again he cheats on her. Same drill, depression sit in with her - much worse this time around - so again I do everything that I can to perk her up because I hated seeing her that way. Fastforward to the fall of freshman year and I find out indirectly through Facebook that they're back together. So in my head I'm thinking I'm just being used as comfort. It was essentially a viscous cycle in my mind where I felt like my emotions were being played with (mind you if I recall, I believe she knew that I had feelings for her.) I ended up sending her a really nasty message and broke off all connections with her - a message that I really regret to this day. I sort of wish I could take back what I wrote, but at the same time I felt like I had to move on.
