Snowboarding is fun (skiing is better)!

So to commemorate that yesterday was my first day of skiing this season, I thought I would do an entry about this winter sport.

One thing I learned in marching band was that my entire section either skied or snowboarded. So, once the mountains got ample snow, I picked everyone up and we drove off to one of the local ski places. I normally ski, but my friends convinced me that I should try snowboarding. I reluctantly agreed under the condition that we had to go down the bunny hill first. So my friend grabbed her extra snowboard and we headed off towards the easiest hill ever.

I got all nice and strapped in, and shuffled over to the chair lift. Each of the chairs could hold three people, so I sat in the middle. In other words, the first mistake. We ride up with no problem, but everything started going downhill when it was time to get off. I step on my board, careful to not let my loose foot catch on anything, and immediately get thrown forward into the snow bringing each of my friends on either side down with me. Once we unravel ourselves, we all shuffle over to the edge and strap in our loose foot. They both got theirs in a minute, after fifteen minutes I finally gave up and had someone else do it for me. Finally, I was ready to try my hand at snowboarding. I might not have done a great job getting up here, but how hard could going down be?

I stand up and hop, with much difficulty, to my side and start going downhill. Naturally, my friends are all done at the bottom watching me. I start going and I'm doing great. I'm balanced, in control, and not turning. I start going a little fast for my taste, so I try to turn and my board won't budge. I swivel my hips just like they do in the movies and nothing is happening. I'm now going way faster anyone snowboarding for the first time should ever go, when my board catches on something. I'm let out a monstrous scream (and yes, it was a girly one at that) as I'm thrown to the ground face first. After I lay there for a second and turn over, a four year old decides he should come over and give me a personal lesson on snowboarding. I don't think it helped much. I just did a cycle of go, crash, and repeat until I reached the bottom where my laughing friends were waiting.

From then on I decided that I was a skier and I should stay a skier. On the bright side, now I'm not curious on whether or not I could make it as a boarder anymore.

Ah, so jealous. Haven't gone snowboarding and skiing this year, it's so fun though! We have a ski lodge 30 minutes or so away from here, and it is so fun! I learned how to do both last year! I prefer snowboarding over skiing, but both are fun. Haha I'd probably crash too! I did a lot of that last year.
