2014...how'd we do?

Hey guys! I haven't really used this blog in a while, so I figured i'd use it to talk a little bit about how I feel 2014 was as a year for me.

As the year began, I jumped into PC's Trade Corner, and got to know quite a few people there. And that was what compelled me to try to complete my Pokédex in X, when I initially wasn't really up for it at first. When I got the Oval Charm for the Kalos Dex, I managed to get everything without Bank, with some faint strokes of luck by getting the legendaries, no less than three days before Bank released. I was still shaken from the disaster that was my Pokémon Center restrictions X Wedlocke back in December, but I managed to tie up the wrap with my Ground Ultimate with X.

Around that time, I was still active on Marriland, and I had watched his amazing 1,000th video, but there had been strain that was being pushed on me and I was led to leave the forums there for a little while. But before then, I got my hands on my 3DS being revised with capture card modifications, but unfortunately there was no way for me to record a video with it. Despite that, while I was home, I was compelled to get back into the challenge swing thanks to Marriland's Black Wedlocke series. With that, I was back and better than ever, so I tore into my White version and did a Wedlocke on that, which ended up very well. It had a lot of luck going on for me, but things worked out pretty good despite some tense fights. Not only that, but it made me love BW all over again. Marriland's Black Wedlocke series was a good time, too (Garbodor for life!!!).

Then I took running for the Wedlocke thread after the original owner of it went off for a little. Even before that, I started to play around with the capture card by using it with Y, where I started a Red Mono-Color on it. I didn't really come back to it until after I was done White, and in the middle of that I pulled out White 2, fired up Challenge Mode and went into what I might consider my biggest challenge yet (which I kinda already discussed in my previous blog back in August). In between that time, there was the announcement of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which excited many people, including me.

Getting to real life matters, it was hard for me to keep with communications after one of my classes frustrated me immensely, and I was told it wasn't going to get easier at all. That's what made me want to go from communications to an English major, and that's been working quite well for me - but more on that later. Even then, there were some nice activities I had the chance to do at college.

Even if I started to get not as active in Trade Corner than I was early in the year, I still remember having a nice time there and breeding a lot of cool Pokémon that I would trade.

When the summer came, I managed to finish my White 2 Wedlocke two weeks after I was let out of college, which felt amazing. Then I did another Wedlocke, but on X, and that was a very fun time that almost never got frustrating. But after that I moved into what I considered a game that I didn't plan on being child's play: Heart Gold, where Marriland's first Wedlocke came in. And speaking of which, there was Marriland's Black 2 Wedlocke to keep my eyes on, and that was good stuff to come.

But real life matters again, there were some good activities we got a chance to do in the summer, such as going to Virginia for our grandparents' anniversary, and Ohio to visit my sister and her husband, and of course we went from there to Chicago, which had some nice deep dish pizza and other cool exhibits. To wrap it up, I got to go to Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, which was a good way to end the summer.

Once I was back in college and using my English major, I had a lot of courses that left me writing some papers, but there were some that I wrote in ways I felt were unique. I had to touch on some matters that were personal, or debating on various issues. And I took a Literary Theory course, which the professor of said was the hardest course the English major had to offer. That course did not mess around; I had a massive ten page research paper I had to write as the semester neared its end! Sadly, before then, I ended up calling off a major trip to New York that I spent over a month excited for. :( Not that I feel like I really missed much though, I was there last year and there was good and bad about that time. I also got to go to Atlantic City back in September, which was a great trip - the weather was literally perfect, there was a lot to do, I never got lost, and I even scored over $100 on one of the slot machines. The only thing about that trip I didn't like was that the food I had was a bit of a letdown, but the rest of my time made up for it.

I was also told by my advisor that i'll have enough credits to be able to graduate next December if I go for two more semesters, which is also awesome. There will be some tough classes i'll have to take before then, though.

On the challenges front, aside from my Wedlockes, there were the event challenges that had Stadium Arcadium, the Carnival of Horrors, and Delibird's Stocking Stuffers and Chandelure's Festival of Lights. Some of those gave me more interesting ways to play the game, and pull out ones that I likely wouldn't pull out otherwise. I also had fun using a lot of different Pokémon in the adventures.

And late in the year, we had Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I still have only played Omega Ruby once, but i'm sure that will change in 2015 and i'll have more playthroughs to come. Even though I haven't really gotten used to breeding and collecting good IV'd stuff in those games yet, but there will certainly be more to come.

My Christmas weekend was a nice time. Aside from having guests over for Christmas Eve and a nice feast there, on the way to our grandparents' house, we were having a heated debate about music, which continued at the dinner table when we were at the house. We talked about a few of the major hits this year, like Happy by Pharrell Williams (which we do like), Dark Horse by Katy Perry (which a lot of us gave the thumbs down), Fancy by Iggy Azalea (one that we generally had the thumbs up for), Counting Stars by OneRepublic (great stuff), Rude by MAGIC! (funny), Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha (which a lot of us liked), and Shake It Off by Taylor Swift (a track that my brother didn't like at first, but it grew on him). I got 1989 for Christmas, and we played the album the next day, and my mom REALLY liked that stuff, haha. More than she likely should.

There weren't too many non-Pokémon games I got into this year, but I did pick up Fantasy Life with my Target money I still had (since I doubt i'll get to go to a Target here anytime soon), which I can really say I am enjoying quite a bit.

So, that's all there is to it, I guess. Happy New Year, everyone, and hope your New Year's is just as good as mine! And I also look forward to what i'll get to do in 2015, hoping that will give me as much fun as this year did.
