It's better to go after something that you truly want to do rather than being forced to go after another thing and end up regretting it. This is what I felt had happened to me. I truly regret my original decision, and thus I had to deal with it for the following year. I put up a facade saying that I can do it to everyone, even to my best friend, despite the fact that it's the complete opposite.

So basically, I'm... dropping out from my current major in university.

After horrendously failing at my midterms on all the subjects that I was sure I am able to do, I... gave up. I don't know anymore. I tried my best to not fail but in the end I feel like I couldn't even reach the 50% mark on any of them. At this point, I know I really don't have the heart to continue anymore. Like, sure failure is only a part of studies, it's normal to fail. But consistent failures as well as the declining motivation towards the subject in general just makes me even more certain: I want to quit.

And thus, I am now a NEET. I'm planning to take on the university entrance exams once again, this time towards the major that I actually want to do. Sure, I'll end up being the eldest in my class, but if it means that I'll be happier than my current situation, I'm willing to take the shame, from my family, my relatives, my friends, my old high school teachers who keep asking about my situation, and the like. I don't care if I'll be ridiculed about it for the rest of my life. I just... want to do what I really want to do, y'know?

I just hope that to those of you who are planning to enter college or university, before you do, just stop and think about it first. Do you really want to enter? Is the major you're planning to tackle the one for you? You may try it out for the first year and see if it's really the one for you, but I'm just saying that you should be the one to decide your future.

Don't get influenced by other people saying that it's the best one for you. Don't feel forced to do as what your parents told you to. Your parents are there to give you advice, they know what is best for you, but that doesn't mean you have to follow them all. You're the only one who knows exactly what is it that you truly want to do with your life.

Just... don't repeat the same mistake that I've done...

Listen Candy, there is literally no shame in changing your major. If you were forced/convinced to pick a major you didn't want to do, that was the person's fault and not yours - do what makes you happy! Plus whatever you learned in your old major will still count as knowledge :D

Whatever others tell you, just know that your wellbeing and happiness is what matters the most right now ^^

You did your best and that's all that matters. Who cares about what other people think? They should be the ones ashamed for not supporting what you truly desire and are passionate for, more so if they are 'family' (no real family puts each other down).

I wish you all the best and I hope you'll get into the course you are aiming for. You can definitely do it. If I say you can, it's a fact that you can. (⌒▽⌒)

Good luck Candy! I hope you have success in whatever you choose to do. I'm sure it'll feel a lot better doing something you like ^_^ Don't be discouraged by anyone who tries to tell you it's not the right thing to do. They're not the ones who have to live your life--you are, so only you can make that decision.

After horrendously failing at my first entrance exam attempt, I took a drop. Instead of choosing some random college, I took a year off to study and prepare for the entrance exams again.

Guess what? I didn't do much better than before. I ended up being mocked by people and regretting the fact that I'm behind my peers by a year now.

But that's okay. I had cleared one of the other exams and, through it, I got into a pretty decent college. Now I'm happier than ever and all my worries and my problems and all those crappy thoughts are behind me.

So don't worry. It'll all end up working out just fine. Just keep being strong. Remember - you took a decision after careful consideration and now you'll do something you actually like. People's comments and shame that you'll face as a result - everything is just a passing memory in your long life ahead. It'll end up disappearing from your mind without a trace before you even know it. So cheer up, friend. :)
