The Road to Competition: STILL searching...

Posted September 20th, 2013 at 9:32 AM by Griffinbane

So some time ago, I finally went to my local library (the one that's on summer schedule) and asked if it was possible to hold the league there. The guy (nice English accent, btw) said that he'd look into whether it was possible or not. That's good, right?

A week later, I went back and asked him if it would work out. Turns out, he was leaving in 3 weeks and there is someone else coming to replace him. What the hell. Well, he said that he'll talk to whoever is gonna replace him about the possibility of holding a league there. Another problem is that he said there usually isn't enough staff to cover Sundays (which is the day of choice for me) and that Saturdays might be better. Uhhhhhh... how dat work? Saturdays have that book sale in the afternoon... Yeah. Yet ANOTHER problem is that he says with schools starting up again, the number of events the library will hold will pretty much skyrocket and it might not be possible for the league to be held there. Ugh.

Well, he did show me the meeting room. It's not a cavernous room, it's about the size of a classroom. Good for oh, 20-30 people. 40 might be a bit of a squeeze. Not bad, not bad! Although the basement looks a lot like my own, except with white paint and less cobwebs. And more space, of course.

So yeah. It's pretty unfortunate that I got forced to pick my third choice to try to start a league. It's looking like the soonest I -might- be able to start is in November because of scheduling and staffing issues.

Several negatives to this place:
- Small meeting room. Well, it's actually pretty reasonable considering that the leagues surrounding Philly don't often have more than 50 people.
- Lack of parking. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood. 'Nuff said.
- Lack of public transportation. There's only one bus serving the area, the 56. On the other hand, it's several blocks away from a small bus station, which is home to 3 other routes, which connect to the two railway lifelines in the city. Hmm.

Well, shoot. I'm better off opening my own gaming store.

Yep, Pokemon league. I want to go for both tgc and vgc but my knowledge in all stuff tgc is rather... spare. I was looking around the other day and it turns out that the leagues outside the city that was doing both tgc and vgc regularly had an average of 40 players. The one league inside the city that's tgc only had about 15 players on average. More people play the game but tgc generally has a more devoted crowd so I don't know.

    Shut up Keiran. :p
