Top Thirty Anime Series

Continuing on with my list of anime series I have really enjoyed, a list that I'm sure you're all extremely thrilled I'm putting the effort into writing, below are entries twenty through to eleven.

Number Twenty - Akame ga Kill

Akame ga Kill is sort of like the GoT of anime. It takes you into a large and corrupt kingdom, introduces you to a group of characters with questionable morals, makes you love them and then kills half of them. It's just got less politics and more superpowerful magical weapons (just as much murder though). Akame ga Kill shows you a world where it's impossible to win without getting your hands dirty and shows you that good people will do terrible things if they have no other choice. It's a really enjoyable watch.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Nineteen - ReLife

I'm sure we've all wished we had the opportunity to go back in time and relive another time in our lives. ReLife doesn't send characters back in time though, it briefly ages them down to their teenage years again and gives them a second chance at high school life in the hopes of learning lessons that will benefit them in adulthood. It's an interesting anime that raises a lot of questions and explores them through humour and drama.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Eighteen - Clannad/Clannad: After Story

Clannad begins in a way that will make you laugh and suggests it will be goody all the way through but gradually builds up on the feels as it goes taking you on an emotional rollercoaster. You'll fall in love with the characters of Clannad and find your heart wrenched by their suffering and lifted by their joy. Unfortunately, the first series is weaker than After Story but the latter is easily strong enough to bring it up to this high on the list.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Seventeen - No Game No Life

If you've ever wondered what you'd get if you crossed the zaniness of One Piece, intellectual warfare of Death Note and the most typical harem ecchi series you can think of, this series is probably the answer to that question. No Game No Life introduces us to a vibrant and very well constructed world where everything important is determined by games. It's fun and lighthearted and, whilst the fanservice can be a tad bothersome at times, overall a really good show. I long for a second season.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Sixteen - Isshuukan Friends

Isshuukan Friends is the story of a girl who loses all memory of her friendships at the end of the week and the efforts of a boy to befriend her anyway. Despite the unrealistic premise, I feel this anime is often neglected or underrated when in reality it should be quite highly regarded. It takes us on a very emotional journey as the central characters struggle to deal with some complex problems and shows us how much we should value the people who are always there for us. It's a beautiful story with gorgeous artwork and I highly recommend it.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Fifteen - Zankyou no Terror

Zankyou no Terror feels like Death Note reincarnated. A pair of super-intelligent young terrorists put their brains to use in laying siege to the city in pursuit of their goals as a talented, smart and extremely disliked detective attempts to outwit them and catch them. The story brings us a glorious and dramatic series of battles of wits whilst exploring the histories of the characters and the current state of the world. It's a complex and thrilling series.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Fourteen - Kokoro Connect

To this day I have not come across another anime quite like Kokoro Connect. It takes a bunch of seemingly ordinary high school students and subjects them to a bunch of seemingly quirky supernatural events such as body switching or the removal of inhibitions. Although at first it seems purely comedic the drama soon ensues as we watch how being the plaything of a supernatural entity forces these students to confront their own demons and insecurities. Kokoro Connect is a truly unique experience and enjoyable for it's excellent humour, likeable characters and touching drama.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Thirteen - Code Geass

Code Geass is the pinnacle of the mecha genre including complex characters, intellectual battles and also kickass giant robots. It has brilliant characters and extremely clever and thrilling battles and makes you question just how far you'd go to make the world a better place. There is a range in quality in all honesty with some episodes being sixes and others tens but overall this is a brilliant show.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Twelve - Erased

The mystery and thriller genres don't seem particularly common when it comes to anime, but Erased makes me question why that's the case. It provides us with a great premise with a main character who is cursed to be sent back a few moments before a death occurs to prevent that death. However when his mother is murdered his ability sends him back to his childhood shortly before a girl in his class went missing. The story is intense and deals with dark themes of abuse and murder as well as lighter ones such as companionship and trust as we're taken on a complex journey, watching the MC try and piece together how the crimes of his childhood and his mother's death are related. I'll admit that the show does have pacing issues with the second half definitely lowering a potentially higher score but overall this was a fantastic series deserving of such a high placing.
MAL Rating: 8

Number Eleven - Angel Beats

Angel Beats is definitely a standout among anime. It's not the only one to deal with life after death, but it does so in such a different way that it stands on its own as far as I'm concerned. Character driven from the get-go, Angel Beats begins very quirky but steadily begins to pull more and more on our heartstrings as we learn about the pasts of the central cast, watch how the relationships of the group play out and ultimately meet the dramatic climax. We're definitely getting into "required watching for anime lovers" territory now.
MAL Rating: 8 (but verging on a 9)

That's the next ten. What do you think of these placings? Should they be higher, lower or do I just not know what I'm talking about?

I should do a blog/post series like this. Nice to see some well-written insight into opinions on several series.

Glad you like it. Would love to read a similar series of your own!
