I was all excited cause I have a cell phone upgrade coming up in two weeks. I went to Verizon today to take a look at the three phones I was choosing from (iPhone 5, Galaxy Nexus, & Galaxy S III). The Galaxy Nexus was the phone I ended up choosing in the end. The Verizon employee asked if I had any questions. I asked if I would lose my unlimited data plan if I upgraded to the phone, and he said yes.

Well this upset me a little bit, but I got on with it.

So he told me that at the same price I'm paying for unlimited data ($30) I could get 2GB of monthly data. I asked him to check my data usage for the last few months...and my average was 4.1GB...MORE THAN DOUBLE WHAT I WOULD BE ALLOTTED IF I UPGRADED. That means I would be paying $50 a month if had the same data usage.

So obviously I can't upgrade anytime soon otherwise my bill we be higher (which I don't want).

So if I buy a phone outright (without upgrade pricing) then I could keep it...but the phones are RIDICULOUSLY more expensive that way. The phone I want is $50 on contract (through Amazon's Wireless Store) or $600 FREAKING DOLLARS without a contract.

My iPhone 4 is already kind of beginning to not work like it used to (I'm pretty rough on my phones). And I've also had it for more than a year and half.

Ugh.
I'm just so upset.

Well, if your phone wasn't in such rough shape, I'd say keep it...but I mean, you're talking to someone that has an iPhone 3 and doesn't like to change so maybe I'm not the right person to advise you on these things.

The Galaxy Nexus would kinda be the same speed as the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 is currently king of the benchmarks making the S III look outdated.

Also what the hell have you been downloading to get it so high? @_@

Instead of upgrading, you could always switch carriers and start a new contract with a different provider. Sprint is best, considering the unlimited data they have available to everyone.

@Nick: I'm pretty rough with my phone. I drop it a lot (the screen hasn't broken yet though) and I have trouble with the buttons. I'm stubborn and I hate cases. I work at a paint store so I've had to get buttons fixed because of them sticking :(

I want to stay with Verizon because they are the fastest Data speeds in my area (the only one who offers LTE speeds). Also with my job I get a 20% discount with them.

@Zet: I stream A LOT of music and I watch a lot of YouTube at work during downtime. I use a subscription music service called Rdio and that is how I listen to most of my music. At home it's not an issue cause I listen to it on my computer...but in my car and at work it's all I listen to.

Why don't you just use your iTunes? It'd definitely save you the media usage if you're listening to music a lot.

@Sydian: I listen to A LOT of music. Rdio lets me listen to all I want to for $10 a month. That is WAY less than I used to pay buying music on iTunes. So the way I have it now works out to less money.

But if I want to upgrade I may just have to get rid of Rdio. IDk...maybe I'll just go back to iTunes and get the iPhone 5 :/

But if you have to change your media package, just using what's in your iTunes would save you more money overall. I listen to a lot of music as well, but I just stick to my iTunes. Besides, when you get home you can use Rdio or Pandora or something similar.

And yeah, I hate covers too, but I have one anyway. v_v It's better to be safe than sorry, I guess. Though I don't really drop my phone at all, and the only crack in the screen is small and it got there back when it was my mom's phone.

The alternative would be to download music illegally, rather than paying Rdio $10.00 a month...

^ That too, haha. But if he listens to a lot, then perhaps his phone would run out of room.

@Nick: I like Rdio because I can't listen to anything I want at anytime I want. No downloading necessary. I don't mind paying $10 for that convenience.

@Sydian: I do listen to a lot...and the perk with Rido is I don't have to lose space on my phone.

But...

I think I've come up with a solution! :D Rdio has a feature that I TOTALLY forgot about.

You can sync any music from Rido to collection over Wi-Fi. So at home I'll sync some music to listen to for the day and then turn Rdio offline :D I think this will work out. I'll try it out for the next two weeks and if I can live with that then I'll upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus :) Yay.

.___. why trade in a phone if you're going to be getting a worse plan?

I just upgraded my phone this weekend from:

.. No joke. I don't understand the need to upgrade something that is already good. I didn't even have data before- the old phone didn't even have that capability hahah but I would've killed to have your old phone.

Graahh kids these days! *mumble mumble*

@Kura: OMG yeah you needed to upgrade.

And I want to upgrade because I have a 3G phone and these new ones are all 4G the data speeds will be much much faster. But if I'm limited to what i can use I guess speeds don't really matter anyway.

ugh. idk.

some networks don't even actually provide 4g, though.. you are buying a 4g phone with a 3g network sometimes and it makes no sense.. it is like false advertising.

If your phone is working phone then just have a think on it. Go around and see what places have the best deals and talk to people.

And the s3 is apparently good but.. hella expensive like.. holy heck. PLUS it's a GIANT. How can you fit that massive thing ANYWHERE?

My city has had 4g with verizon for 6 months now.

I've decided agains the s3...I got to mess around with one today and it was way too big.

I've decided for gal nexus or iPhone5 (If I get the iPhone 5 I'm gonna save up the money over the next couple months probably)
