WTF Did I Just Read? is a series in the Daily Bloggity that compiles some of the weirdest facts from around the Internet into one central place. This will not be a weekly series, but rather just a series that I'll do whenever I feel like it. Each list contains five facts that contains a link to the original article if you want to look more into it.

Fact #1 - Speak dolphin, speak!: Conducted by John C. Lilly in 1958, he held an experiment testing to see if dolphins could speak human language poised on the idea that children could learn how to talk through close contact with their mothers. So, a dolphin and a woman by the name of Magaret Howe were placed in a house filled with water deep enough so the dolphin could swim around for 10 weeks straight.Unfortunately though, the dolphin didn't want a mom, but rather a girlfriend, so he became violent with her and started showing off his genitalia. The researcher thought it would be a good idea to make him cooperative by having Margaret stroke his erection. She complied, and surprisingly enough, the dolphin was more cooperative after that point (read on for the best part.)

Fact #2 - What did you just say to me?: With the invention of the telephone, there wasn't really a way in which one was supposed to greet one another. Or rather, there wasn't a set response already in place in which one could just say in response to someone calling them. Before the word "hello" was decided as the proper response - suggested by the business man Thomas Edison - it was first thought that the proper way to respond to a caller would be through the word "ahoy," suggested by Alexander Graham Bell - the man credited with inventing the first practical telephone.

Fact #3- Row, row, row your aaaahhhhh!: During the Joseon Dynasty, the Koreans built warships called Turtle Ships - or Geobukseon - that had dragon heads at the front of the ship that would shoot fire at the Japanese naval units. The deck of these ships were also covered in iron spikes to discourage enemy men from commandeering the vessels. These war vessels were primarily used to thwart Japanese Commander Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attempts to conquer Korea from 1592-1598.

Fact #4 - I'm not scared of that, I'll drink to dat!: Acclaimed writer Dr. Seuss only got his pen name by accident. In the 1920s during the Prohibition years, Theordore Geisel - Dr. Seuss' actual name - was caught drinking on campus and thus was forced to stop writing for the college's humor-magazine that was being run at the time. In order to keep writing for the magazine without the college's administration finding out, he started signing using his pen name "Seuss."

Fact #5 - Monkey see, monkey poo: Knowing the theory that a monkey with a typewriter with an infinite amount of time could type out a Shakespearean piece - appropriately named The Infinite Monkey theorem - the University of Plymouth decided to put it to the test. They simulated the experience by putting a few Sulawesi crested macques in the same room as a typewriter and waited to see what would happen. Unfortunately for the researchers though, all the monkeys ended up doing was destroying the typewriter and defecating and urinating all over it, proving that The Infinite Monkey theorem was indeed flawed.
