As long as you follow in someone's footsteps, then you have strings attached to you. If you become addicted to drugs or something else, then your dealer, or whatever type of supplier you have, is your puppetmaster. If you follow in the footsteps of whatever other people want you to be, or think you are, then you have strings.
It is only after you choose your own path that you cut free from these strings. I am still struggling with these problems in many different ways, but I am slowly growing more free. I believe there will always be someone above that pulls you along, but if you choose your own path correctly, you will only be guided in a good way.
Of course, guiding others attaches yourself to them in a different way. It's your influence that ends up guiding them on your path for a while. One day, you might end up seeing them guide you. Depending on how you treated them, this could be a good, or bad, thing.
Cut your negative strings, and see where this ends up guiding you, and others, in life.
