I'm at home, around 54oF (about 12oC) outside, going through the Battle Tower with my latest team. I wanted to blog about my stats, strategy and streaks through it, to hopefully achieve the goals I'm trying to reach and maybe some members can enjoy this. And a good portion know, I'm a Battle Tower Maniac, I love the thrill of it all. (In some ways, I find it funner than competitive play)

(Only two runs so far)

( Uxie ; Yellow Hat)
[ moveset ]
I use a combination of Duel Screens & Yawn support; yes, the same Uxie from my previous team. It's simple, effective, and takes advantage of the fact the AI in the Battle Tower won't switch. (Unless locked into an immune move, or perish songed) I'm considering putting in Flash over my filler move. (Grass Knot, which I use to rid sash starters that may pose a problem to Chomp's or Luke's sweep) Reason being is an opponent with 3/9 accuracy really isn't that much of a threat, and easy set up for substitute and Swords Dance or Calm Mind. (Chomp and Luke respectively) I use my screens & timing of Yawn based on multiple factors... if the opponent's lead has a super effective move on Uxie, screen which spectrum the attack is on. Follow up with Yawn, Uxie probably faints and Chomp or Lucario come in to say hi. If they're a set up threat (Such as Double Team Shuckle, Rotom, or Curse Snorlax) I yawn first to make sure the max amount of set up is two turns. Then screen which attacks they have, switch off to a sweeper. I usually don't need both screens, and Yellow Hat has Light Clay; which allows 3 extra turns of screen support. (8 in all) Overall, a great way to get the ball rolling in my favor that provides an excellent opportunity for the fellow party members to sweep the opponent.

( Garchomp ; Jetstream)
[ moveset ]
Another familiar face from my previous Battle Tower crew; Garchomp. One of the three ubers allowed in the Battle Tower. (The other two being Lati@s) Jetstream is ... an unbelievably destructive Pocket Monster. Give it one turn, just one turn, it'll be good game. Garchomp also serves as my trump card, when things are looking bad, Luke fails to complete a sweep and Uxie can't hang in there, Jetstream cleans up any mess and it's on to another battle. I give Garchomp a Lum Berry in case pesky status tries to get in his way. (Most notably burn & sleep status, since paralysis isn't that common with Chomp) I'm at a war with my self with the moveset. For one, I didn't get Outrage Chomp, sadly, so Lum Berries possible use there won't happen. Although I can't say I haven't been disappointed by Dragon Claw, it'll still get the job done. Substitute vs. Fire Blast is hard though. For one, Substitute will protect Garchomp from accuracy decreasing moves and other negatives, yet Fire Blast (at least for me) has been very helpful. Scouting Bronzong's ability, laughing at Pocket Monsters that use Counter, (Such as Machamp or Wobby) and also taking care of annoying steels that Earthquake doesn't tear a new one. Battle Tower experts say Substitute is the way to go though, so I just need to raise enough money to buy the coins to get the Substitute TM. (...again. >_>) Earthquake and Swords Dance are obvious staples on the set. And this Chomp is Jolly, so it'll outspeed a lot of BT Pocket Monsters.

( Lucario ; No nickname)
[ moveset ]
It's surprising effective, actually. You'd think Swords Dance Lucario would have anyone's number, but CM Luke is the SDLuke of the outside metagame. I wanted a Lucario to breed so I went to GTS and picked up a Lucario with a Choice Specs moveset. (EVd correctly too) I replaced two moves with Calm Mind & Substitute and bam we were all set. Aura Pulse is an automatic laugh at Double Team Pocket Monsters, while Dark Pulse hits pretty much everything else. And boy that flinch rate is helpful. One of the biggest problems for this team are two things) lack of supplies & lack of funds. Since my Diamond usually isn't kind to me, I'm often struggled to get correct items and moves. Example being here that I have a Petaya Berry instead of a Salac. (That item change cost me a streak at 61) It has Steadfast which is perfect, because I'm much rather gain speed than to avoid a flinch all together. (Aka, I love Fake Out against me) Overall, sets up a Substitute while the opponent is asleep, gets in some CMs, hello sweep.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Mm'kay, so far I'm up to 35 at the Tower and beating team with numerous sweeps. I log my battles, so I got too many statistics for my notebook. XD All of these are obviously out of 35 battles.

:[ Do you know any decent places/FAQs/etc. to get started or do I just have to like lurk around S&M or something to get the hang of it? 'Cause I would like to learn but... but it looks so intimidating. xD;

It sure doesn't help that S&M STILL scares me even if it's vastly improved over the years. XDD

You could learn how I learned, just play. >_<
Go to Smogon and put random OU Pokemon on your team. :3

But if things go wrong.. you could turn out like boo; never learn anything.

- - - - - -

I can't stand the Battle Tower.
My best streak is probably 4.

Or you can take a gander at our compiled guides in S&M, but yeah, if you want to learn, check out Smogon.

And haha, why Kayne? D: Hax?

Haha, I'm sorry, but have you even read what the restrictions of the Battle Tower are? That's the company's line in the sand between too strong or not.

Garchomp was banned a year after the DP Battle Tower came into existence for one.
Two, the term "legendary" is a mere title and label that offers no unfair advantage when you're talking about OU tier or lower legendary Pocket Monsters. Read up on that.

And finally, the Battle Tower is a completely different ball game from competitive play, and has it's own defining factor of not allowed or not, as I said earlier. I'm not being unfair when the BT can use Garchomp, Latios and Latias too, lol.

My team is perfectly legal and allowed, thanks.
