Effectively Sharing Your Truth

Imagine someone says to you that there is no God. Life has no point. Is that totally alien to you? Some of us just can't understand that point of view, but I felt that way for a long time.

When I was an atheist, a real God was incomprehensible and absurd to me. And I thought it was my responsibility to convince others of my truth. Ever tried to "get through" to someone with the opposite view? How did that work out for you?

When you hear another say something that you don't get, or don't agree with, stop and realize that if you were living their life, then you would think the way that they think. The proof is that they are living their life, and they think the way that they do! Don't dismiss their view.

Why? Because people who feel like they are not getting heard are unable to hear what you have to say. This is how shouting matches happen: both people are giving their opinion and neither feels like they are being heard and validated.

What you resist persists. When you acknowledge another's view as valid (even if you're against it), conflict ceases. Then real communication - and therefore transformation - become possible.
