Hey guys, it's Dahlia Hawthorne or Erik Destler on SPPf. Volunteered to help "cover" Platinum here :B
Keep in mind I don't know Japanese.

Starting out, there's a new program on TV focusing on Professor Rowan's laboratory in Sandgem, probably stating that he is back in Sinnoh. After that, your rival abruptly enters your room, and starts talking about something. Afterwards, you go down stairs, talk to your mom, then you're pretty much free to leave the house.
Twinleaf Town now has patches of snow all over the place,
Like in Diamond and Pearl, you proceed by going to your rival's house, only to have him run out into you. Afterwards, he goes back upstairs, and it proceeds like normal there. You just go upstairs and he checks his PC and then leaves.

Then, you leave town, only to find him in front of where the grass to the right starts. You talk to him, and then Professor Rowan approaches heading from the west at the Lake. He talks to you, and then your other rival, in my case Dawn, appears with a suitcase. After some talking, you choose a pokemon. Rowan and Dawn then walk off to leave you and your rival to talk. He challenges you to a battle, and then once you win, he talks some more and then you go back to your house.

You start off talking to your mom while she is standing in front of the sink and you across the counter but then you two cross over to the seats in front of the television. She gives you the running shoes.
Afterwards, I headed out of town and found my rival standing there waiting for me. You guide him over to the Lake ___.
Upon arrival, we notice a man with blue hair (Cyrus) standing looking at the lake. He turns around and basically tells you to move out of the way. Your rival obliges and moves out of the way.

All of a sudden, you hear a cry in the distance! It seems to be the cry of Mesprit. Your rival seems excited about whatever it was, but then leaves.

The next thing I did was head over to Sandgem Town, where I was met by Dawn who escorted me to Professor Rowan's lab. Your main rival, who will hence be called Matt throughout this blog, meets you there.
Then, you go inside and get to nickname your starter (I nicknamed my Piplup Luke), and then he gives you the PokeDex.
No new options that I have noticed, but it does have a new theme.

When you leave, Professor Rowan is like INSERTYOURNAMEHERE in giant text. He has to give you TM 27.
Once he does, Dawn takes you on a tour of Sandgem and shows you what everything is, like a PokeCenter and a PokeMart.
After that, I decided it's probably best to head on home, so I hopped the ledge and ran back to town.

I went to my house, and then talked to Mom who at first healed my pokemon, and then gave me a journal. Afterwards, Matt's mom walked in and gave me a package to give to Matt. Again, like DP.

Afterwards, I headed back over to Sandgem town and to the north to see Dawn waiting for me. She then teaches me how to catch a Bidoof and then gives you Pokemon Balls to officially start your journey! Yay!

Then, once you round the corner, your first official Pokemon Battle begins! After a battle or two, my Piplup is now on level 9 and I'm on my way to Jubilife City. The final trainer on the way there has a Grass Form Burmy. That's new :o

As soon as I entered, Dawn walks up to me and greets me. She then takes me to the center of the town where there is a man standing there with.. his hair flopped over to the side. Different music starts to play… and we receive the Battle Recorder! The man runs off into the distance. I believe the man is the Detective from the screens.

Dawn then tells me that Matt is at the Trainer School, however I'll go heal my pokemon first. Afterwards, I enter the school, give Matt the package, and then receive a Town Map. Afterwards, he runs out. The next thing I did was battle the two trainers in the corner and then exit the building. As I walk towards the center of the town, the head of the Poketch Company. You have to go get the vouchers, again.
And the clowns are in the same spots as they were in Diamond and Pearl.

Once you receive the PokeEtch, (which by the way has two buttons so you can scroll up and down now through applications) the man walks off. You start off with the four applications – Clock, Calculator, Step Counter, and your team.

The lights on the apartment complex which is now near the exit of the town (I don't recall if it was there in DP) now flicker. It's very .. realistic. At least to me.

I headed up to Route 204 and caught a female level 4 Budew who I named Sunni.
Didn't bother battling trainers here, so I just ran back to town, healed my pokemon, and then headed east.
Upon exit, I am greeted by my rival who wants to have a battle.
He has a level seven Starly who I take down easily with my level 11 Piplup.
Also, his starter, a Turtwig for me, is now level 9. After a few turns, I have finally beat him!

After this, I decided it was time to go to the Union Room and trade over a Rotom egg I had previously prepared for Platinum. Now I'm currently on my way to Oreburgh. Like DP, you receive HM 06 from the hiker as soon as you enter Mt. Coronet. Upon entering Oreburgh, you're escorted to the gym AGAIN, and you notice that your rival standing there. Heading straight to the mine, still nothing has really changed.
Talked to Roark – exact same thing AGAIN. :[

Leveled Budew up to level 10 and now ventured to Route 207 before battling Roark. Nothing too different, there's supposed to be Nosepass there apparently but I didn't encounter any :s
After a few times, beat Roark. He has the same team as he did in DP (Geodude Lv. 12, Onix Lv. 12, Cranidos Lv. 14) and he gives you the badge and TM 76.

the ending seems so boring because of the exact same thing parts.. but platinum sounds really interesting. And it's such a crappy beginning

Rowan: HEY LOOK A TRAINER.
You: ...
Rowan: BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. Here choose a pokemon!
You: ... *chooses*
Rowan: BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH *Walks away*.

how intriguing.
