This week, Ash takes on Maylene, battles to a draw, and then ends up completing his team in the process!
One big change was taking out Team Rocket, as per the competition rule (that, and Team Galactic has a major role next week, so it wouldn't make sense for them to show up here) This was also another good spot for Dawn to cheer Ash by singing "Glory in our Story" again, which is a call back to his battle with Roark earlier.
Maylene actually says her in game intro lines to Ash.
I also sped up some of Tails' match with Kiiroha by having Water Pulse be the finishing blow. I figured Kiiroha had been worn down a bit, so figured Water Pulse would be the perfect finisher to induce a tie.
Ash receiving a Riolu is new for the story. Not only is it a nice callback to movie 8 and an induceable Pokemon, I felt it would make sense for Maylene to give him one as thanks for inspiring her. This was also a good spot to showcase another one of Ash's out of battle performance talents--in addition to being a musician and actor, he's not too shabby at puppetry, either.
"Radiant Divinity" is a long running RPG series in the Pokeworld that is famed for having parties that are a mix of humans, other fantasy races, and anthropomorphic Pokemon.
Next time, the group races to stop Team Galactic from attacking Veilstone City!
