Ever since it has found a cozy little spot in our hearts to curl up in on the cold nights, Pokemon has found ways to bring comfort and excitement to fans since the day it was released to the world. The formula for the game hasn't changed much, but if you're anything like me, that hardly matters; Pokemon is as timeless as a clock with no hands. With that opinion on the table, however, I'll admit that it is fun to shake up that formula every once in a while.

Nuzlocke! I have never done one of these before because I thought that I wasn't good enough to inflict these self-imposed set of rules on myself, but the time I've spent training and learning since Pokemon Crystal has paid off, and I feel like now is the right time to finally give it a go! I've decided to try my chances with Pokemon Platinum, because I have only played through it twice in the past (maybe four times if you include Pearl), and since it has been such a long time since playing it, I have mostly forgotten the nitty gritties of the game. After I started, it wasn't until I nearly got my first badge that I looked up how hard it is to Nuzlocke Platinum version and realized it was voted one of the more difficult Pokemon games to Nuzlocke... Welp, there's no turning back now!

To start, everyone reading this should know that I am kind of weird and get unreasonably attached to things. I played pretend a lot with my little brother and childhood friends; I would bring my stuffed animals and Bionicles to my friends house and we would create these elaborate stories (for a 5-9 year old boy) about how they would form friendships, families, and how they would go out on great and dire adventures to protect those bonds. Sometimes, characters would die and new ones would come in, but the dead characters would not be forgotten. The toy itself was still in our room, just stuffed in some shoe box where the other toys couldn't see them. They were in "heaven" after all.

The same story goes for the Pokemon we caught and trained. Yes, my brother and our friends would imagine ourselves as though we were actually in the games we played, creating bonds with each of our Pokemon as we came up with origin stories and personalities for them. We lamented when any of them fainted and rejoiced when they evolved. I can only imagine what tragedies we'd experience if we tried doing Nuzlocke runs as children!

This funny quirk of mine has, for the most part, stayed with me throughout the years. To this day, I still apologize to my stuffed animals and Pokemon when I have to cram them into a box when my family and I move. When I recently started my Nuzlocke adventure, I was hopelessly attached to each Pokemon I caught and was serious about training. What made it worse is that they could now die! I can lose them if I'm not careful! It adds tension to the game that... I strangely enjoy. What a horrible set of rules that some masochist created. I love it.

So, all this being said, I hope anyone reading this will get some amusement as I travel back to the Sinnoh region and bring this new adventure to life with these weekly updates!

Thank you
