So, for my application to DigiPen, I'm supposed to make up my own card game, and write an essay about it. I assume this is to prove my general creative ability, as well as my ability to playtest, and fix problems in my design. The game is called Traitor, and is heavily influenced by Real Time Strategy games like Starcraft 2, Age of Empires, etc.

Here are the rules after way too much time playtesting it:
Spoiler:
I'm supposed to write an essay on it, so I'm not able to use pictures, examples, or even a numbered list like this, so I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to explain the rules in that format. So, let me know if it makes sense to you, and if there's anything you think I should change/worded poorly. Also, if you want, I'd love it if you tried playing the game, and let me know how it goes. :D

1. I don't think you need to put 'clear a space' in the rules, that's a given for games that you'll need enough space to play lol.
2. When you play a card, specify face-up or face-down.
3. That note in rule 11 is really confusing. "Draw at the end of the turn, unless you play a card, wait no everyone draws". I don't get it.
4. An Ace isn't the strongest card if something can beat it ;x That's a little confusing too - can only a 2 beat it, or a 2 or above?
5. The last thing I don't get is - are you only allowed to play your own color? You don't specify but it seems implied.

Split the basic turn up into different phases.

Draw Phase: You may discard 1 card from your hand to draw 1 card from your deck.

Action Phase: Select a card of your chosen colour to play, and place it in the space nearest to you.

End Phase: Draw 1 card from your deck.

Now you can dive deeper and explain some of the more in depth stuff.

Each turn you place a card in front of your previous cards and advance towards your opponent's bridge of cards. etc etc.

Just grab a rule book for a card game like Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon TCG and glance through that. Should give you an idea of how to format your own rule book.
