"Rapid Review Saturday" is a new series in the Daily Bloggity where I look at a video game, movie, or show and give some quick comments on them. Spoilers may be given. This is a weekly series and will appear every Saturday at 5PM ET.

Thanks to the advancement and readily accessible use of technology, it seems like almost anyone is able to make a video game nowadays. Some of these games are good, most of them are bad, and then there are those select few that just seem to blow the rest of the competition out of the water. Even with a tight budget, the games are able to contain tight controls, great art designs, and most importantly, awesome gameplay. To this extent for Rapid Review Saturday #3, we shall be looking at a game that has been very popular on the indie market, Rogue Legacy.

Daily Music - "Mockingbird" by Eminem
Spoiler:
Rogue Legacy is by far one of the greatest indie games that I've seen in the last few years. Created by Cellar Door Games and available on Steam for only $14.99, Rogue Legacy's is about a knight who must bring honor to his lineage by vanquishing the enemy who slew his King. In order to do so though, the knight and his descendants must slay all four bosses that are scattered inside the castle and the surrounding grounds. The game kicks it old school with high quality 2D action, making it an amazing 2D randomized platformer. The reason why I classify Rogue Legacy as a "randomized" platformer is because each player's experiences are completely unique. You see, the floors of the castle that lead to each boss is completely random, meaning you can't take the same path to reach the boss' chamber. Furthermore, the knight you use is also randomly generated. Each knight contains specific attributes and characteristics that may help you or hinder you on your adventure; it's literally the luck of the draw in what your descendant will have. However, that doesn't mean you won't be able to control your character. You are able to choose which kind of armor he wears, what kind of weapon he wields, as well as what abilities he might have.

Daily Comic - "Lip Balm" by Kris Wilson of Cyanide and Happiness
Spoiler:
Definitely my favorite thing about this game is the random traits that your heroes will get. As stated before, these traits hinder or help you on your adventure. Sometimes you'll get Gigantism, where your hero will be double it's normal size or Dwarfism, where it will become half it's normal size. Sometimes you'll get Endomoprh, where you won't get knocked back by enemy hits or Color Blindness, where you're entire game turns to black and white. Sometimes you'll get Vertigo, where you will literally play the game upside down or my personal favorite I.B.S, or irritable bowel syndrome, meaning your character will fart at random times while jumping. These random traits that each of your descendants gets makes each run completely new and unpredictable, giving only fresh experiences each time you play.

Daily Video - "Frak Legacy - A Rogue Legacy Parody" by animator My♥♥♥♥inMess
Spoiler:
Rogue Legacy was the video game that defined my gaming experience my freshman year at college. I distinctly remember pouring hours upon hours into this game, trying my very best to beat it. It was the first time in a very long time in which I was engrossed by a game and I couldn't put it down until I beat it. Each death was frustrating (as you essentially lost all progress because you level up by collecting gold in your runs, which you lose at each death), but it also pushed me to go even farther than I had before. When I finally was able to beat the final boss (after leveling up over 100 times) I had a moment of satisfaction where I felt great and satisfied with my gaming experience. It tells me that you don't have to have to play a AAA game like Call of Duty to have a wonderful gaming experience; which is exactly what I had.

Rogue Legacy is only one example of a great indie game that is on the market right now. Have you ever played Rogue Legacy? After checking out the trailer, think you might get it? Are you a fan of indie games? Which are your favorite indie games? Comment below as I'd love to hear what you have to say about the subject.

‡ As always, the "Daily Bloggity" is self written by myself and includes just some of my opinions on different mediums. If you have a subject that you might want me to touch on, feel free to PM me or comment below! I would love to hear some of your ideas! Tune in tomorrow at 5PM Eastern Time for the next edition of the "Daily Bloggity!" Cheers! ‡
