Is the World still ending?

I have to know. I've been out of the loop here @ PC and I know there have been a few more threads about 2012. But I have heard reports that scientists actually unearthed unknown Mayan calendars recently. And it said that the new calendars were not finished and those guys decided to put them away for the time being. But they never got to it.

So I'm guessing that the Mayans ran out of toner when they were making those newer calendars? And before their shipment came in, the Spanish came by and did them in?

Is it now safe to say that we can all breathe a sign of relief anf go on living our lives in fear due to how messed up the United States is in?

If it ain't 2012 that does this country in, it's going to be the November elections. Whichever party wins the White House, we all lose in the end.

Yup. They pretty much ran out of toner when it came to writing their newest calenders, so to speak.

These prophets need to get with the program.

The calendars that were unearthed extend to over 7,000 years from now, so if you do believe i that stuff, then the world won't end this year. Either way, 2012 isn't the end, so nothing to fret about. ^^

The way the Mayan calendar system works is, on the basicmost level, that it doesn't end. It's just one really super long year that keeps going and going...but it has to stop eventually, because people get tired eventually and stop writing in days.

Also consider that the Mayan calendar does not take into consideration "leap years," so the world should have ended already (by the "Mayan's Standards").

Not quite true... the Mayan calendar didn't have leap years but it didn't need them. Leap years are artificial constructs of our calendars meant to offset the days we lose since our concept of a day doesn't quite match up with the exact time it takes for the earth to rotate once on its axis. The Mayan calendar that everyone freaks out about is based on how many days have gone by, not specific years and dates. So it doesn't matter whether the Gregorian calendar has been adding in extra days here and there to account for math rounding--the Mayan calendar is supposed to restart (not end!) after x number of days and it will. On December 21, 2012 because that happens to be the equivalent day in the Gregorian calendar based on literal days, not how we measure days in recent history.

Simply put, the "end of the world" to us is just like turning over to a new millennium to the Mayans. :P All that changes is their 12th cycle becomes the 13th.
