The Elite Four (alongside an unlikely trump card)

Having trouble with the Elite Four? Are Karen's dark-types teaching you a lesson? Is Bruno being a bully to your party? Do you want to be a respectable noob and not use your level 77 Typhlosion? Fear not, unstoppable trainer! There's a secret on route 35 that will ease your worries and make the Elite Four the laughing stock of the entire game. Weighing in at 83 lbs, the lax, often dozing off, trump card:

I grabbed my long-forgotten Yanma from the Daycare, expecting it to be a lil' bit of extra help alongside Scyther and Murkrow, but as I started planning out my team and moving some puzzle pieces, a
eurika! moment struck me: Yanma can slaughter the elite four with ease. (*insert laughing on the floor @ Barnes & Noble*)

I slapped Yanma as the lead and trained my other pokémon for things like Houndoom and Murkrow (oh and some guy named Lance) I'd say my team is over-leveled compared to some other blogs, but hey, I don't use any of those healing items, so this is more difficult than your average "I'll sweep them with 30's 8D."

ELITE FOUR

vs. WILL
Psychic-types, right? Hehe, simple enough. Xatu are weird because they're part flying, so Bug Buzz isn't that amazing against it. In preparation for that, I gave Yanma the handy choice specs I found earlier in my journey. :D What happened? Swept the entire team with ease. *yawns*
vs. KOGA
I figured I'd just massacre him with Psychic from Yanma, but I decided to do something different. I lead with Specs Slowking, took some dmage from Ariados, and KO'd it in one shot. Forretress entered the stage, so I brought out my Gyarados. Two dances while it lay useless toxic spikes, and then Gyarados proceeded to sweep the entire team. Forry got a bit of damage before it died, if that matters.
vs. BRUNO
Choice Specs Air Slash says hi. Also, for Onix, Lapras cleaned up quite nicely.
vs. KAREN
Choices Bug Buzz had a blast with Umbreon (one shot, lol), so Houndoom came out to play. <insert another kodak Gyarados moment> Used Nasty Plot, I used waterfall, um, no more houndoom. :D Raikou took out Murkrow; Yanma cleaned up Vileplume and Gengar (spite, rofl) with Air Slash.
vs. LANCE
I honestly didn't know what I was going to do here, maybe abuse some yawn, try and play around while hitting him hard with ice-types, carbon copy the clair strategy, I didn't really know. I lead with Raikou to start off the battle with an easy knock out. 6 - 5

The text warns of a Dragonite (haha, great, which one? :/), so I send out Slowking to sorta scout. As I mentioned earlier, I thought about the yawn idea, well, this Dragonite got off to a fast start with safeguard, so lol forget that. I spammed ice beam while it used safegaurd; then Dragonite took a huge chunk out of Slowking's health with Outrage, and I finish it off with ice beam.
6 - 4

The text warns of another dragonite, so I decide to lure Lance into a little trap. Lance sends out Dragonite, I send out Gyarados. I wasn't too sure which Nite it was (thanks to FF not workin'), but I knew the thunder one (ie. the main threat to my 5/6 thunder weak team) was around somewhere. I immediately switch back to my in-red-health slowking and whatta ya'know, thunder. (which easily ends Slowking)
5 - 4 So I send Gyarados back in, knowing it had thunder. However, I knew there was a thunder abuser before I even entered the E4, so what did all my weak-to-electric types, bar yanma, have? Wacan berries. >:) (thanks mom!) It uses Thunder, hits, and takes out about half of my health. While Ice Fang does quite a bit of damage. So what does Lance do? Full Restore, of course. Ice Fang yet again. Another restore met with Ice Fang. So then Dragonite uses Thunder and MISSES, I KO with Ice Fang. (whew...) 5 - 3

Next up, Aerodactyl. So I send out my lv. 32 (I didn't want to train it, okay? ;_;) Murkrow. Whatta ya'know, Thunder Fang. :| Murkrow dies rather quickly.
4 - 3 So I send back out Gyarados: INTIMIDATE SAYS HI. Aero uses Thunder Fang, takes me to red if I recall correctly, and I OHKO with Ice Fang. 4 - 2 At this point, the heat of the battle was raging and I forget to sacrifice Gyarados in a ~~bring out lapras and switch to die intimidating~~ manner. So I attempt to Ice Fang, Dragonite finishes me off. Eh, death fodder. 3 - 2

Enter Lapras. Dragon Rush does some damage while I ice beam, taking a sizable amount out, but it's not enough. So, this is where Lance really starts to piss me off. Why? He gets item high. I used Ice Shard while he uses his first restore, takes nite somewhere around the middle of the HP bar. Uses Dragon Rush again, misses. Ice Shard once again takes it down to red. Repeat the last series of events word for word, about two times. (seriously, it was ridiculous) Only reason I was using Ice Shard over Beam at this point is because I was pretty weak and I wanted Yanma to come in and revenge kill with Air Slash. I shard, take it to lower health, and Dragon Rush neatly KOs me this time.
2 - 2

So... we've got a weakened Dragonite and a Charizard waiting in the background. Big problem: all of my three water-types to handle Zard with ease? Uh, dead. I bring in Yanma, and Choice Specs Air Slash finishes nite off (thank god he didn't abuse an item again)
2 - 1

Yanma has done its job (excellently so), at this point in the Elite Four, and goes out with a bang by ripping off ~53% of Charizard's health with Air Slash. Charizard counters with its own Air Slash and Yanma finally falls.
1 - 1

How ironic, the pok
émon I searched and hunted for to the corners of the region is my last man standing: Raikou. I put in hours, countless encounters, several frustrating shakes, and we're up against it all: the all or nothing. I send out Raikou, click thunderbolt. Raikou strikes first, and Charizard falls. 1 - 0; in a brilliant finish. There you have it folks: beat the elite four, and the first part of my journey, without a single whatever-potion, restore, full heal, whatever. Lance used many, but I still won: rock on.

Hee, you used a similar strategy for Gyarados versus Thunder!Dragonite like I did, only it was with the Aerodactyl, and I gave Charti Berries to Typhlosion and Crobat so it wouldn't OHKO them with Rock Slide XD

But I like your team. Quite a few Pokemon I doubt others may end up using (such as Yanma), and you didn't even use your starter for the E4.

And ohgod the time you have for beating it XD Where the heck did you even train?

I trained at Victory Road (owwwsim for all dows watur-tipes)

Reasons why my time is so high:

  • Victory Road training (Caught a slowpoke @ lv. 6 after I got to Indigo, traded with Aero, and trained for what seemed FOREVER)
  • Raikou Hunting (very, very long)
  • Entei Hunting (also time consuming)
  • Leaving my DS open and on charging some nights
  • VOLTORB FLIP <3333
  • RANDOM POKEMON CATCHING SPREES (oh my lord, all those gyarados and magikarp I caught just for fun ._.)
  • Oh, and general wandering around to look cool

~I LIKE TAKING MY TIME~

Now, that one half of the journey is over, the next half is at its beginning. Keep playing and keep taking your time.

Your blogs give me something interesting to read. <3

You finished it with a 1-0. The exact same finishing I did. Except it was like a 2-0 or something. I had Ampharos and Espeon left. But that was a really close match with Lance. >>;

I'll try, Hiiro.

Problem is: there's a place west of Olivine. You may have heard of it... yeah, you know what I'm thinkin' >8) I'll get a couple of factory runs in before going on.

Also, I want to get into the athlon, that's seems so fun, I just need a styluswhatchamacallit.

this game rocks, so hard.

And hehe, ironic ending indeed, Derk.

On a side-note: I love how I use Raikou and everyone else uses Ampharos. Amazing to me how much of love Amphy gets.

As long as you're having fun, that's good. :)

I really would like to get into the Pokéathlon as well. The Notch Eared Pichu being a possible sport for this area since I can't really use it for anything else. :\

Anyway, Battle Frontier, oh boy, I can tell someone is going to try and break their record in a new game. ;) Have fuuuun.
