Season One, Episode One

I am a huge fan of stand up comedy and improvisational comedy, and as some of you may have gathered from my current theme, I am a fanatic when it comes to the television series, Whose Line Is it Anyway?. I have decided to share my love for the show by posting short reviews for each episode.

For those of you who don't know the show, Whose Line? is an improvisational comedy show that masquerades as a game show. The four performers take part in various games and scenes based on suggestions from the audience, instructions from the host, audience interaction and combinations thereof. At the end of each game the host awards points arbitrarily, these points do not matter in the slightest as a "winner" is also arbitrarily chosen at the end. On with the entry!

Performers
The man with the dirty last name - Greg Proops
What's for dinner - Wayne Brady
The most handsome man in Canada - Colin Mochrie
His son - Ryan Stiles

Being totally in honest, the series overall gets off to a rather average start. There are some good moments, and the cast did manage to give a taste of their talents but something was lacking. Perhaps the show being the first season in the US made them cautious or maybe the suggestions didn't allow much room - I don't know. It was a solid performance but it pales in comparison to some of the hilarity to come.

Best Performer
Ryan Stiles - Ryan was by far the most consistently funny performer during this episode of the show. The majority of the highlights from the episode came from him, he was the most amusing between games and he worked well with his co-stars.

Best Moment
I almost had to give this to Wayne, just for actually memorising the ridiculously long title that Ryan gave him in Greatest Hits. In the end though, I have to say the best moment of this episode came from Ryan in Sound Effects when he made Colin run over a patient whose life he'd just saved.

Rating
6.5/10 - Perhaps if I hadn't seen what these performers were really capable of yet I'd score it higher. Unfortunately I have though and I know that bar one or two infrequent performers the majority of them can top what they did in this episode easily. Still, it was solid enough and had some really good moments.

Those are my thoughts anyway, have a watch of the clips - or better yet the episode - and feel free to share some of your own.

I love the old Whose Line. I don't know if it works as well anymore, since I feel Drew brought a lot of humor with him and Aisha is not as strong of a host.

@Harley - I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't love how much Ryan despised Hoedown. His hatred makes for great TV.

@Klippy - Aeysha is improving and we're starting to see some of the banter returning, I don't think she'll ever be as good a Drew though.

@Kura - Best duo in comedy! Oddly enough though, they don't tour together.

@Mr. Cat Dog - "Little Richard"
