Woah, hey there o/

I'm finally getting around to creating a cosplay I've wanted to make for a couple of years. I wasn't quite sure of all the elements, and I'm still not, but I thought it would be fun to share my progress as I figure it all out and craft it!

I don't think I'll be making it to any cons until early next year, so luckily I can spend a little more time on this and experiment with techniques/accessories until I find something I like. My last cosplay was finished at like 11pm the night before the con. No crunch this time!

Franziska von Karma

SO ANYWAY. The character I want to cosplay is Franziska Von Karma from the Ace Attorney series. She's really confident, intimidating, and all SASS. I think that would be a lot of fun to portray. However, I'm also really into steampunk and sci-fi and wanted to make a post-apocalyptic steampunk version of her. I don't know how the whole look will turn out, but I have a lot of little ideas that I think will organically end up building a look on their own.

Right now I'm working on the corset/top half of her outfit. I was thinking of having gears on one side, so I cut out a few paper patterns and painted them and pinned them to see how it would look. At first I was going for just silver gears, but then I thought of adding a little bit of a teal and reddish brown to make them look rusted. Teal because her color scheme is silver, teal, and black (and that bit of yellow I'm going to ignore). Painting them out, I think I went a little overboard and they look a little too much like Frozen- meets-a-Tarantino-Blood-Bath gears. I didn't like how they looked pinned on the corset either, so they're a no go.

I'll be doing a pattern of the buttons she wears and seeing how they look on the corset. Whichever ends up looking better, I'll choose. I was also playing around with the idea of making the seams of the corset have teal go down them as well, but I may save the alternating teal/black combo for the skirt.

TL;DR: I tried out some gear patterns and coloring and didn't like them. Will be try her buttons and some teal on top next.

PIX PIX PIX. The corset + gear patterns and paint mixing~ I have one light in that room so the bright colors don't pop, argh.

Additional stuff I have planned out:
-(Of course) Steampunk top hat and googles
- The wig will be longer than her hair hair here so I can style it. I'll cut it if I don't like any long styles.
-I have a shoe design, but the shoes I want to use are my parents house bc I haven't worn them in YEARS. I'll post the design (maybe, I'm self-concious about my drawings blah) in the next progress entry.
-I have a rough idea of how the makeup will look.
-Her bow and brooch is next on my list to make once I have the gears or buttons made.

Anyone ever cosplay before? Con goers? I love fashion, sewing, and designing so this is a no brainer for me haha.
