70th Anniversary of D-Day

The Battle of Normandy, Operation Overlord. Those are some of the words to describe the biggest seaborne invasion in history that occurred during World War II. Today, June 6th 2014 marks the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. Here the numbers related to D-Day

5 landing beaches (Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, Sword)
1200 planes
5000 vessels
nearly 160000 troops

Now the nationalities of the troops that landed the beaches
American - Utah, Omaha
British - Gold, Sword
Canadian - Juno

Now of the beaches, the fighting at Omaha was the heaviest. Utah had one of the lightest amount of fighting. Fighting was also heavy at Juno and Gold. Sword had a moderate amount of fighting.
