Kyoko
Meet the PokeCommuntiy'ers #19

"Meet the PokeCommunity'ers" is a series of the Daily Bloggity in which I have a one-on-one with specific members of PC in which we can get to know them more. All responses are in their own words, and questions were made on a general basis. If you would like to see a specific user in the next edition, comment below! This will be a weekly series appearing in the Daily Bloggity at 5 PM Eastern Time every Sunday.

Date: 08 May 2016
Time: 4:20 PM ET
Mood: Embracing my inner Ron Burgandy

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]When did you become a member of PokeCommunity and how did you come across it?[/css-div]
I joined on February 11th 2006. I was just 14 when I joined and now here I am at 24. It's weird to think about sometimes. I joined because I had discovered Pokeshipping fics at SPPF and wanted to find more, which is how I found this forum~

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]How would you describe your experiences and how they may have changed over the years on PokeCommunity?[/css-div]
It's funny, I went from having dial up internet and timed sessions on AOL when I first joined, to now being able to access PC on my phone during work. My life has changed so much in these past 10 years, but PC has seemed to remain constant. It's my internet home, where I know I can post around and feel comfortable, no matter how long I've stayed away. Although, I feel like I was a lot more involved when I was younger, I miss actively talking to people outside of PC.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"] What is the significance or origin behind your username? Past usernames?[/css-div]
I have had like legit 10 usernames lmao. I wish I were joking.
KyokoButterfly15: my very first username! Fruits Basket was my favorite series at the time and Kyoko Honda was my favorite character. She had the nickname "The Red Butterfly" but KyokoTheRedButterfly seemed too wordy, so I chopped it down and added a 15, my lucky number.
Takara: I literally think I just looked up pretty names. I was happy because I rhymed with Chikara for a little while. We were partners in crime AND rhyme :D *shot*

Other names: *Princess Seraphia*, Satsuki, Arisa, Thaleia, Reine Blair and Stiletto. The last two were during my heavily inactive time, I loathed Stiletto.

I claimed I would never change Kyoko again after seeing someone else take it. But who knows, I'm kind of itching to change it again.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Any particular reason why the number 15 is your lucky number?[/css-div]
I wouldn't say it is now. I was 14 when I came up with KB15 and REALLY excited to be turning 15. It just sounded so mature and fun at the time lmao. So basically, it was my excitement for being that age soon.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]May we get a hint as to what you may change your username next into?[/css-div]
One of the Targaryen Kings 8) I made it my character's name on Fire Emblem and now I'm attached to it.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Which forum do you see yourself gravitating towards the most and why?[/css-div]
Off-topic just because it's where I've spent most of my time. I enjoy talking with other members and posting about random things. I also enjoy General Entertainment since I keep up with pop culture and it's one of my favorite things to talk about. I lurk in RPT, A&D, and RT and post every now and then.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What would you say is the most absurd or random thread you've ever seen on PC?[/css-div]
DINOSAUR BUTTS. Literally have never seen anything like it haha.

Daily Music - "Just Smoke" by Mumford and Sons
Spoiler:
[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]If you could make any improvement to the site, what would it be and why? If you can't think of anything, what would you like to stay consistent?[/css-div]
I don't know, I honestly really like how PC has evolved over the years. It seems a lot more interactive and open and it's great.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Did PokeCommunity used to not be as open as you say it is now?[/css-div]
Mmmm, I don't know if it's wasn't as open, it just felt more strict at times. Like, people can post 3 word posts now, but back in the day you had to abide by the character limit or someone would call you out. There also weren't any VMs at the time, so trying to talk to someone was intimidating because you had to PM them or hope it was okay to add them on aim/msn whatever.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]If you could moderate any section on PokeCommunity, which section which you choose and why? What would be the section you would least like to moderate?[/css-div]
I guess the Treehouse or anywhere in Off-topic just because it's where I spend all my time. I wouldn't want to mod any of the pokemon game sections just because I haven't finished a game all the way through since D/P came out. I wouldn't even know what the discussions were about.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Who would you consider a role model for yourself, in real life and/or on PC?[/css-div]
Any lady out there who is kicking ass and taking names in their field. Also my Dad, who came to this country at a very young age knowing only a little English & worked his way to becoming an engineer.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Tell us more about your Dad. Where did he originate from?[/css-div]
He came from North Africa when he was a little younger than I am now and with only a few words of English. He couldn't study architecture in his home country, so he studied that and engineering here in the states. After he finished schooling, he decided to stay here and become a citizen rather than go home with some of his friends. He's a great guy who supports any wacky thing I want to do and is so genuinely nice and caring. He's been through so much in his life, I get sad if I think too much about it. I want nothing but happiness for him and I love him so much.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What is your favorite Pokemon and why?[/css-div]
I have no idea why, but Houndoom has been a long time favorite. I also like Magmar, Vulpix and Spheal. I think it's really weird I like so many fire pokemon because I almost never had a fire pokemon in my party in any game. The only exception is Blaziken. Torchic is the only fire starter I've ever used.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Have you played a lot of Pokemon games? Do you have a favorite?[/css-div]
I played all of them up until B/W…kind of. I literally could not get past the first gym in Pearl. I still own all the games and I actually played B/W but never finished. Pokemon Red was my first Gameboy game, and Crystal and Sapphire are my absolute favorites <3 It may not be a popular opinion, but I really don't like the 3D look the newer games have and I find all the extra things you can do kind of overwhelming.

Daily Comic - "Ace Attorney" by Zach Cranor of Last Place Comics
Spoiler:
[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]If you were granted a wish and could wish for anything - besides more wishes and more genies - what would you wish for and why?[/css-div]
For enough money to pay off my current student loans, and enough to pay off my graduate education in full. I'm currently taking prerequisites to apply to grad school and would be heartbroken if at the end of this I find out I can't afford it.

Either that or to get rid of my chronic health issues. They're a giant pain in the ass and I feel really confined sometimes because I get sick a lot. They're always on my mind and I've been so unbelievably tense and on edge lately because I'm so terrified of being hospitalized again.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What is your favorite video game or series and why?[/css-div]
It's a tie between Ace Attorney and Zero Escape. They're both visual novels for the (3)DS and both have really phenomenal story lines and characters. My favorite of those two series would be Trials and Tribulations for Ace Attorney and 999 for Zero Escape.

Honorable mentions: Pokemon Crystal & Sapphire, BioShock Infinite & Portal 2. I look up Portal 2 quotes sometimes when I'm down because they ARE GOLD. I think I've replayed it 3 times now.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Okay, you've just come across a person whose never heard of either of those series i.e. Ace Attorney and Zero Escape (*cough cough*) Sell them a pitch why they should pick up these games (series) and play them.[/css-div]
MOFO IF YOU DON'T GO PICK UP THIS GAME RIGHT NOW WE'RE GONNA HAVE A REAL PROBLEM. If they don't join you, beat 'em, yknow? But actually, they're both great stories that will keep you super engaged and excited. They have stunning music and the majority of the characters are really memorable which is impressive for a series that has 5+ games. They're so good, I took off a day from work and a day off school to finish them.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Who is your favorite video game character and why?[/css-div]
Santa and June from the Zero Escape series. They both fit my brother and mine's personalities and they're both siblings like us. It's one of those things where if I explain why I like them, I'd completely spoil the plot, ha.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What would you say is your dream vacation?[/css-div]
I want to travel all around the world so it's really hard to pinpoint just one location. I guess if I had to pick one, it would be Italy. I almooost got my minor in art history and studied a lot about Italian Renaissance art and I would love to see it all in person. Plus: mountains, GLORIOUS FOOD, one of the first universities, and beautiful architecture!

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What made you change your mind in terms of having art history as a minor?[/css-div]
It was a financial decision. I knew I was going to have student loans and in order to complete my minor, I would have had to stay in school another 2 quarters and that didn't seem feasible to me. So I just stuck with my major. I run a blog about women artists, so that keeps me in the loop and helps me to learn new things. I also go to the art museums of every new city I visit. So I didn't lose interest in the topic, I just have to be active about my own learning.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Who is your favorite artist/song?[/css-div]
NOOOOOO. NO. I WILL NOT ANSWER THIS. HOW DO I JUST PICK ONE? However, an artist I recently discovered is Mumford & Sons, so they're a new favorite. Just Smoke and Believe have been on repeat <3

Daily Video - "Your Average Ace Attorney Trial" by animator KawaiiPirahna
Spoiler:
[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Mumford & Sons is a great band, check out White Blank Page if you've never heard of it. Have you ever been to any live concerts before? [/css-div]
Duly noted! I have :) I've seen Aerosmith 3 times (my 12th birthday, my 16th birthday, and my 19th). They have such a stage presence. I also saw Imagine Dragons in 2014 which basically a spiritual experience. I just got tickets to see Weezer and Panic! At the Disco this summer, so I'm excited to see how they are.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What would you say is your favorite TV or cartoon to watch as a kid?[/css-div]
I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST, LIKE NO ONE EVER WASSS.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Okay, gotta ask it. Who's better: Brock or Misty?[/css-div]
HAHAHAHAHA AS IF THAT'S EVEN A QUESTION. I joined for Pokeshipping fanfiction. I stopped watching the show when Misty left. I used to have the whole episode of "The Waterflowers of Cerulean City" memorized. My first ever forum username (on SPPF) was CeruleanWaterFlower. I was devastated when they got rid of the Midnight Misty skin for a little while. Look at my profile too! I think you'll have your answer ;)

tl;dr: who tf is Brock.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Outside of PokeCommunity, what are your favorite hobbies? What interests you?[/css-div]
I love to create: painting, drawing, doing small photography projects and making cosplays. I work so much now that I hardly have time to do anything hobby related. I'm trying to motivate myself to keep doing these things though, it's a great outlet. My mind is always going & when I'm painting/drawing/sewing I'm only focused on that and it's magic.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]Can you show us any examples of any of these hobbies of yours? It sounds like you are a very creative and artistic person![/css-div]
I'm self-conscious about my paintings and drawings, but I'll happily talk about my first ever cosplay I made a couple years ago: Trucy from Ace Attorney. I was really happy with how that turned out. Although I WILL NEVER work with silk again until I'm much better and know how to properly work with different fabric types. It was so much fun (and work) to watch a character come to life. I can't wait to work on one again.

[css-div="text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #000000"]What do you currently work as? Do you like the profession that you are in? [/css-div]
I work as a media manager. Basically, I run social media marketing campaigns. I have 2 large and complicated clients, so I work a lotttt. For a couple weeks in January, I was working 80+ hour weeks and having complete meltdowns over it. I like my job itself, but not my manager. I'm sticking with it for now though because I want to go into is more analytical in nature, so I like the experience in working with a large amount of data, analyzing it, and making recommendations. I've been in the field for 3 years now, working first as an account executive, then within campaign operations. Now I do a lot of reporting, executing of ads, media buying, and spend lots of time on the phone with clients.

Ideally, I'll one day get my masters in economics and I can go off and work for governmental agencies doing research to help formulate better policies. I recently read a book about a group from the CDC who collected data on the deaths that resulted from Chicago's 1995 heat wave so they could better determine why so many people died and how it can be prevented in the future. That would be so cool imo.
