I went to painstaking effort last week recounting my act of heroism in the shopping mall, where - at great risk to my own personal safety - I fixed a potentially traumatic spelling mistake on an out-of-order ATM machine. I knew you'd all be dying to know what happened next: was the perpetrator brought to justice? Did I ever receive my badge of honour? Was there a statue erected in my name?

So I went back to the mall yesterday in hope of finding the answers to all three of those questions... and in each instance, the answer was a resounding no. However, I went and revisited the ATM to ensure it had come to no further harm... and I was thrilled with what I saw:

Spoiler:

That, right there. That is all the thanks I need. A well-written and impeccably-spelled letter of apology for inconvenience. I don't need statues or fanfare or my rightful place cutting the ribbon at the opening of new supermarkets, because you see, I've made a difference. It's tangible, it v--oh you have got to be ****ing kidding me. The stupid ***** put a capital N where it didn't need to be. Jesus Christ.

Oh well, once more into the fray. Sigh. Back to the mall tomorrow I guess...

Blame Word. It automatically capitalizes the first letter of any new line that wasn't word-wrapped around.

Actually, you know what? Blame the banker who typed that up! They should have used the word-wrapping feature of word to get those two sentences onto two lines instead of hitting Enter.

I find the lack of punctuation just as egregious as the unnecessary capitalization.

In addition, the phrase "next to toilets" instead of "next to the toilets" seems to imply that any toilets you may happen to find in the food court will be accompanied by an ATM which, while probably true, is a more ambiguous wording.

i like how you correct the original one's grammar and then only notice one grammar mistake on this one when it's got several.

Yeah! It's spelled apologize. *shot for American spelling*

If there's anything I've learned from the this saga, it's that Word sucks. :p

Why is "Out of Service" okay but "Next to toilets" isn't? ;]
