It's been exactly ten days since I've been promoted up to a Moderator status, and it still feels like such a surreal experience. Sure, I thought to myself that it would be nice to be one - but I didn't really think that I would actually become one. Nonetheless, I've been having a lot of fun as of late. It's really cool to be able to work with other fellow moderators - specifically Dragon and Libra - in being able to determine what direction you want a forum to go in. I had a lot of ideas when I was a regular member, but now I actually have the power to put them to action. I digress. What I really wanted to talk about was what went on that fateful day of June 1st-June 2nd, and the events that led up to myself being promoted.

Daily Music - "Summer" by Calvin Harris
Spoiler:
June 1st was an extremely long day. If people don't know, during the summer I work two jobs: one at Dunkin Donuts, and one at a local movie drive in. How the weekends usually work is I'll work an eight hour morning shift at Dunkin Donuts, and then after a two hour break I'll go work a night shift at the movie drive in for another eight hours. In the end, I'll probably get home around 1am and have only a few hours of sleep before the cycle repeats itself. So if you can probably imagine, I was extremely tired by the time Sunday, June 1st rolled around. I ended up putting my sixteen hours in and then when I got home essentially crashed.

Daily Comic - "Hunting" by Wulff and Morgenthaler of WuMo
Spoiler:
During the day I'll sometimes just check PC on my phone to see if anyone left any messages on my profile or what people have posted in their respective blogs. However, when I looked at my phone on the 1st I got a very interestingly cryptic message from PC's own Morkula. He had asked me to jump on Skype for some apparent reason, and thus I had this question stuck in my head all day as to why he wanted to chat with me. Thus, I didn't have a chance to actually hop on Skype until around 2am the next day, and as you may have thought I literally shat myself. He told me to jump on PC after a little bit of chat chat and all of a sudden I saw my username in bold blue. So many emotions ran at me at once - mainly pure fatigue and utter shock - which mixed together resulted in....well, let's just that I only got an hour's sleep before I had to go to work the next day.

Spoiler:
The funniest thing about this whole experience though was my incompetence due to myself being so tired. I guess on a separate group chat on Skype there was a whole slew of current staff members waiting on there to congratulate me on the promotion. Morkula had told me that I was added to the group chat, but I was so tired that I didn't even realize that there were people waiting for me. It took me roughly about 20 minutes before I actually realized that they were on there waiting for me, and thus I was very embarrassed when I finally did go on. Nonetheless, I was welcomed to the staff in a very joyous manner, and I couldn't be happier about everything that's happened so far.

So what about you guys? For current staff members, what was your initiation into staff like? What were your reactions? For regular members, could you ever see yourself being a part of staff? What forums would you like to moderate? Comment below as I'd love to hear and discuss with you what you have to say about this topic!

‡ As always, the "Daily Bloggity" is self written by myself and includes just some of my opinions on different mediums. If you have a subject that you might want me to touch on, feel free to PM me or comment below! I would love to hear some of your ideas! And remember, rate each entry so I can know what you guys like and what to improve on! Tune in tomorrow at 5PM Eastern Time for the next edition of the "Daily Bloggity!" Cheers! ‡

10 days?! time sure flies by fast lol.

My initiation? Gav dropped a hint in a chat and next morning on Christmas I was promoted. Just like that. :p It didn't take me off-guard totally cuz I was expecting it to a degree but it still was one hell of a surprise. Damn the staffies, though. They promoted me in one of the busiest phases of my life XD; Had to resign due to that in 6 months. But it was a great ride. I had fun.

I do remember seeing the reports control panel before going to my profile and seeing my name bolded and thinking "hmm, is this a bug or something? Maybe some sort of a mistake...".

"have fun modding general pokemon gaming, spin offs, advance generation, and metal/color generation!" from went. like that was it. YEAAAAH this was before challenges ehehehe.

and then i ran around the house. literally...around it.

for smod um i cried lmao it was much less extravagant and then i didn't sleep cause i was freaking out but not really in a good way. when you move up and leave no mod partners behind, it's more of a "what's gonna happen to my babies?" mentality. lol

I got off a Skype cal with a friend I knew in real life, went to PC and saw a PM in my inbox. My heart started rapidly beating in excitement, and it took me a full minute to actually decide. After a decision (which was "yes"), I got added to a large Skype chat moments before my name actually went blue and everybody was saying congrats to me.

Not as exciting as others, but that's my promotion story.

I was in an MSN group chat with mostly 9" people (Jeff, Dean, Erica, Shawn, Geoff, Jake, Jess, Andy, and maybe some others that I can't remember) and I was wrapping Christmas presents at like 2 in the morning Christmas morning 2008 with my dad in my room and they linked me to a post in the DCC in the mod hangout and then I was like okay whatever and then I kept browsing and I noticed my name was blue and I was like cool but it didn't register until like 20 minutes later what was going on. I flipped out and was so excited. I didn't sleep that night, so getting through Christmas was so exhausting.

Then when I got promoted to smod in August 2010, I was in a group chat again on MSN with a ton of people I can't remember who. I just remember Shivi, Drew, Geoff, and Erik were there (but there were a lot more people than that) and they promoted me to smod, then I think they promoted Shivi to smod, and then they promoted Drew to smod. I can't remember the exact order. I just remember being the first one of the three of us to be promoted. It was the day before I moved away to college so I was pretty emotional already and then I got a promotion I was waiting for for at least a year and I was so happy.

I think I could see myself as a potential staff member sometime in the near future, given how some think I give off the impression. As for sections, I think The Welcome Lounge would be one I'd be pretty good at since I know the ins-and-outs of that section and I'm currently one of the few non-staff who's an active poster there at the moment.

As for how the higher-ups would mod me? I'd like to mainly be taken by surprise as opposed to a simple PM (no offense to you Zach) given most promotion stories I've heard usually involved the member in question getting surprised. Adds to all the emotion.
