When I was a kid, I used to watch Pokémon anime when I ever have the chance, but as I'm starting to getting busy somewhere, not to mention that the time slot was in the Sunday morning, the schedule clashes and I don't get to see it again when it was broadcasted. To fill in the gap, at some point I tried to watch some regular streaming (about 5 PM in the Thursday, at least in my time zones), and sometimes relying to some subs and dubs, and I must say that lately I enjoy watching the original Japanese version a lot.
So, when I heard the news several months ago that Pokémon XY will be broadcasted in MNC TV instead of Indosiar (I used to watch it on the latter), I was having some interest but unable to watch due to the reason above. However, since I recently got the IP TV which happens to have the feature to watch a week-long broadcast, I decided to give it a try.
From what I heard on the internet, apparently it used English video as the source instead of the usual Japanese one on the Indosiar, which makes me wonder a bit. The plus thing when I tuned in into Japanese version was that I do enjoy some songs that was played when things get interesting, like V (Volt) when Ash's Pokémon is undergoing the evolution, and DoriDori from Shoko Nakagawa for the battle between Serena and… (psst, in case you haven't watched Battling with Elegance and a Big Smile! [XY064], it's a huge spoiler). :P
Meanwhile, I also welcomed the English dubs at some point, even though sometimes I wish they keep the same music as the original at some point. If my country is dubbing using the English source, they have the option to not dubbing the Pokémon cries if they want to, since their sounds are already provided in there. Oh, and my country tends to choose English Pokémon names nowadays.
So, I started to watch it, which happens to be around Episode 11 right now. It seems like Clemont and Bonnie retains their Japanese name (Citronic Gear, on!), and so does Ash. In case you didn't know, since around Johto series, Indonesian dub have a tendency to call him Satoshi. Even though some of the Pokémon are dubbed, some of them are kept, like Ash's Pikachu and Bonnie's Dedenne. And it seems like the opening was quite different this time. Despite most of them are similar to the US version, the Pokémon logo is red instead of yellow, and 'XY' text is almost taken straight from the Japanese version. Oh, and no Gotta catch 'em all catchphrase in the logo even thought the title theme says it outright.
Overall, I pretty enjoyed the Indonesian dub for the first time, and even though there is no Who's That Pokémon mid-commercial (to be fair, it's reasonable because there are two commercial breaks), I hope that it will be a pretty successful dub as well.
