Yes, for some reason, I actually took the time to do this, which was calculate the percentage that every possible type-combination in the game, used or unused, can hit all Pokémon super effectively with STAB, including all forms. It took me a week to gather this information. I was curious about how different type combinations can hit other Pokémon with super effective STAB, and couldn’t find much information online, so I decided to do the research myself, take some notes after uncovering the results, and use it for future reference. I felt that since I took the time to gather the information and I have it saved, why not share my findings here? Perhaps it could be useful to players that want to take notes as well or help them when considering offensive type coverage when building their own teams.

Of the notes that interested me the most, of all used types under normal conditions, the average percentage that all type-combinations can hit other Pokémon super effectively with STAB is 33%. Another interesting thing to note is that not only does the Ice-type hit the most Pokémon in the game super effectively at 28% alone, but when using the move Freeze Dry, an Ice-type move with a unique effect that hits Water-type Pokémon super effectively, the Ice-type’s super effectiveness on all Pokémon undergoes a 45% increase, making the Ice-type, by far, the type that hits all Pokémon super effectively in the game with the most vastness. Of all used types when considering the effect of Freeze Dry, the average percentage that all type-combinations can hit other Pokémon super effectively with STAB increases to 35%. That means one can safely argue that the Ice-type is, by far, the best type in the game offensively. Defensively however, Ice leaves a lot to be desired, but that is for another future thread, as I plan on gathering information for defense as well in the future.

Another interesting thing to note is that an unused type combination, which is Fire/Grass, is in the top 10, as it can hit 44% of all Pokémon super effectively with STAB, which ties with another unused type combination of Fighting/Electric. However, what makes it stand out is that Fire/Grass is a type-combination that can benefit well from both Harsh Sunlight and Grassy Terrain, considering that Fire and Grass-types tend to benefit the most from them regardless. This means that, should Fire/Grass ever debut in the series, it has the potential to do some massive damage in the Sun and Grass when using Fire and Grass-type moves, all while being able to hit many Pokémon in the game super effectively. The typing would also be good defensively too, as Fire/Grass cancel out each other’s common weaknesses, and together, also resists Steel, Electric, Fairy, and Grass, which are also common in the meta. I am definitely hoping developers create a good Fire/Grass Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that I can add to my future Sun teams!

    Really interesting, this is! ^^
I never thought how much effectiveness a double type with Ice type could have, especially with Freeze Dry!
