This week, the group decides to audition at the Hearthome Theater, unaware they will be acting alongside friends and foes!
Since this episode originally started the Tag Battle arc that foreshadows Ash getting Chimchar, this created a lot of problems when Ash got a Chimchar to start with. I still wanted to retain some form of character development for Ash and Paul, and show that Pokemon is not everything in this Pokemon world. So my solution was to put the characters (plus one fan created character) on a literal stage for a play. This worked out very well, because I get the chance to show that even out of battle, Ash and Paul don't get along. (since it is already well established they don't get along in battle.)
While Paul and Conway still keep their appearances (and gain some last names), Holly was replaced with Keely, a traveling storyteller character I introduced back in Moonlight Silver. I figured this would be a nice way to develop and flesh her character out a little bit, since she didn't make too many appearances back in Moonlight Silver.
Ash getting archery lessons as training for the show also foreshadows XY, where he is shown to become a fine archer in his own right.
Next time, rehearsals get underway for the show, but can the cast learn to get along?
