Yep you get a big fat medical bill you get to pay off if you don't have insurace, for any sort of medical trip whatsoever. I say that because I've gone in to consult doctors for diagnostic work and they came up with nothing wrong with me but they still charge for every little thing you can think of. They say you should always go in if you think something's wrong but it really persuades people to avoid it, even people like me who have insurance but think they're dying about once a month due to hypochondria :P

Sometimes. Like social psychology can deal with things like bullying, prejudice, abuse, drug abuse, etc which often ties into clinical psychology. It's like sociology except it focuses more on the individual's response to societal influence instead of society in general.

ah :P that must suck... if we have an emergency we just go to accident and emergency. i just don't like the idea of ppl exploiting ppl coz of their health... so when u go to your emergency room u have to pay after they've treated u?

is social and clinical psychology linked?

Our insurance comes with my dad's job so coverage is free. And yeah, some do, but people get into some deep trouble if they don't have it. I have a friend who's a minor, dad is a scum bag, mom works two jobs and is never around. Had a bad allergic reaction to perfume and just had to sit at home with fluid in his lungs coughing horribly.
Yep, clinical psychology is to due with mental illness and treatment. Social psychology is about interaction with others and how it affects individual thoughts, feelings, and behavior.

ah. i think it's better that we just pay taxes for it. insurance most cost a lot tho once they realise how much u use :P and also some ppl probably pay more in insurance than the healthcare they use.

clinical psychology is related to therapy right? what's social psychology about?

Our insurance pays for everything once we pay a certain amount every year out of pocket without discount. It's not such a bad deal with the amount my family spends on therapy and meds lol, but it sucks for the first few months while we still haven't met the deductible.
You could look for a gen psych textbook or something, that's all I can think of. I used Psychology by Daniel L. Schacter and Daniel T. Gilbert during my 200-level gen psych courses and it's a nice one. Clinical psychology, social psychology, neuropsychology, developmental psychology, there's a lot of words you can put in front of psychology that'll make a field that some sort of psychologist is likely studying somewhere lol.

well we have a higher tax rate than u :P

    deductible? o.O

oh ok :P is there a book that gives a brief overview of everything. could u tell me the different areas that psychology is broken down into? it's just for interest. i'm not applying to a uni lol.

Grats on your mostly free healthcare, from an American :P You guys are super lucky you don't even know. My family has a pretty good mental health plan but we have three members with stuff going on and a high deductible. Luckily with all my mom's pills we meet it quite quickly.
I think they're all books a beginner could read except maybe Descartes Error but it's not that bad. It'd probably look the best of the four on your reading list though lol.

oh :P well tbh the way it's dealt with is pretty crap and light years behind physical health. at least healthcare is mostly free here :P i'm gonna buy this book on self esteem lol

oh haha. i can imagine xD hm. i think there's a section on HM in the science museum here xD psychosurgery sounds interesting. would i understand of those books with my limited knowledge? any books u read before going to uni that introduced u to the subject? unis always love looking at people's reading lists on personal statements xD
