Aw at no cake. But chocolate bars are good!

What did you think of ORAS's main story? There is some stuff to do but I do miss the likes of Battle Frontier and smaller things like the berry mixing minigame. :<

It is weird, haha. I still have some non-thesis work to do (like turn a chapter into a paper which is currently going through edits/feedback from co-authors) but I can relax and play games and read stuff and etc. And also look at more job apps to do.

Also more gatherings with friends now!

I did not have cake because I didn't feel really like celebrating this year. My parents did try to surprise me with a slice of cake, but it was red velvet which has too much cocoa in it for me to eat. But I did get some white chocolate bars!

As for things I've been getting done, it's just random things. Like I've been watching through every season of Digimon in Japanese just so I can say that I've done so. Also have been playing through video games. Just finished a playthrough of OmegaRuby, and will finally be doing the post-game events for that for the first time ever.

It has to be weird and yet freeing to hand in your thesis. What do you do with all that free time now?

What sort of stuff have you gotten done? Also, did you have a cake? :B

I am quite good now. Yesterday I submitted the thesis! It is weird though not having to do uni/application work this weekend of any sort. Conference was nice too.

Not as much an aside as you might think. That was the telescope that the article (written back in the beginning of July) was about.

Neat aside - there is a giant radio telescope near completion in China. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_hundred_meter_Aperture_Spherical_Telescope

Okay, so I thought I found a news article related to the problem you're having with these interviews. The article was about a giant radio telescope in China, and they couldn't find anyone to run the telescope. The requirements were too high.

Article was fake, but it reminded me of the struggle you're going through.

AH, cool. Got a bit of time to prepare for them!

Yeah, it does. Especially as that's three I've had where I've apparently done well, but in the end someone had the experience or they wanted a different direction to what I could offer to the job. =/ Bluh.

And fair enough. Try not to get lost in there.

Not until September. Unless you mean another test.

That blows about the interviews. :/ That seems to be a problem that's cropping up more often these days. I can understand places wanting more experienced people working for them, but no one can get experience if they're not hired. Shame. But keep trying!

Skype message did send! On the night that you sent it, my phone was on the other side of the house. Then it was in another room different from the one I was in. Then I had the day off from work, and dismissed the notification as I was doing stuff on my phone. Then I was just really dumb and forgot about it.

Or we can go with the excuse that my mind is permanently in the Minato ward of Tokyo back in April 2002. That works.

    Done that test yet?

Alas, still no luck for me with interviews. :< Apparently I do well in them; just that there are people with a better background for the jobs I've reached the interview stage with so far. Ah well, I'll just keep trying.

(Did my skype message ever send btw?)

Here the minimum age is 16, and you just need to do a computer test on road rules for the learner's permit. In my state you have to have an adult drive with you for (at least when I was doing the tests) a minimum of a year and 120 hours of driving to be able to take another test, this time computer and driving. After that I can drive by myself but with a bunch of restrictions, and another 2 and 1 year wait with two more computer exams at the end of those periods later I got my full license.

Now I'm curious on how getting your license differs in Australia!

Since I'm over the age of eighteen, the process is a little different. All I had to do was:
-take a written test, where I had to answer ~25 questions about the rules of the road. These were all in my state's driver's manual, though I actually read a different state's manual! The rules are pretty much the same everywhere though. Once I passed this, I got my learner's permit, which allows me to actually drive a car...so long as there's a licensed driver in the passenger seat with me. The learner's permit is good for two years.
-take a eight-hour "safe driving course." This course--taken at a driving school--covers stuff like "don't drink alcohol and drive." It also went over the rules of the road again. Once this was over, the school mailed me a certificate that shows that I know not to drink alcohol and drive.
-take an on-the-road test. This is where I head down to my local Department of Motor Vehicles and have a tester sit in the car with me as I prove I know how to handle my car on the road. They go over making sure that I know where the lights/wipers/horn/brakes are, and if I can handle the car while following the rules of the road. This is the final step, and I turn in my permit to get my license. The license is then good for five years (or six??) and expires on my birthday.

    And that's that!

Let me know how all these interviews go for you! I don't know how Skype works on my phone yet, but send me messages and I'll check!

*sends luck* Wonder what american driver tests are like actually...

Not going to canada, but have had two interviews since, both within Australia. Not even regular job season for astronomy yet... Seems I missed out on one, but the other interview was only yesterday but we'll see.

Wish me luck on September 20th! I'm finally heading down that day to take my on-the-road portion of my driver's license test. If I pass that, I'm free to hit the road.

Any exciting news for you? Have you heard back about that interview or any other ones?
