Figured out the problem already. It was all Windows 7's Paint's fault. Got the Paint for XP and it worked fine. Thanks anyway and sorry about bothering you with my n00bish questions. :)

To answer your question by saving the file as an Index will keep it as an index file even if you paste a 16 colour image (e.g a pokemon) I'm not sure what happens when you paste a 256 colour image.

I was thinking of getting the trial version first and if it all works out, then yea. And if you don't mind me asking, if we paste the old pic over the indexed pic ( using Paint), wouldn't the pic be un-indexed again? I tried pasting my old pic over the new one in irfanview and the pallete changed to 256-color again. Thanks anyway. :)

I suggest if you don't have it you don't have to buy it because it may not always work.

Umm no. I don't have Photoshop (yet) since I rarely use it. But I guess I will give it a shot. Thanks. Anyway, if you do happen to find out why indexing doesn't work for me, I would be really grateful if you could pm me. :)

Have you tried indexing your image on Photo Shop?
