November 25th, 2008 4:25 PMDGexeXDD W-wow.
Hehe, I'm the opposite-ish. I was never very good in Spanish. At most, I got Cs on average; then again, I hated that language. No offense to any Spanish speakers who may read this, but it is not my favorite language. I was required to learn it, and my folks wouldn't let me take French... ironic, since I have a French speaking character. Anyway.
Los Angelos? Dangit, I'm only a few hours from there, which means I don't visit LA often. Ah well; if I meet him, I'll tell him you said "hello".... and laugh to myself if I have the wrong Finnish man. *slapped*
And I make that mistake all the time. I watch this show on and off on YouTube called Mock the Week, where these comedians play games and poke fun in a comedy-show manner at current events. The host on there is Irish, and one of the recurring members is Scottish. Much to the dislike of a friend of mine who lives in Britain, I used to mix up Scottish and Irish accents a lot. Now, I don't do it so often. British on the other hand... according to that same friend, there are various British accents, as is the case with American ones. Thanks to my being American and all, I can't pick those differences out easily when listening to British people speak.
Oh well! I still like those accents! *nodnods* -
November 25th, 2008 4:20 PMAn-chanBack when I still studied French, I got decent grades from writing and reading (say, 85 points out of 100) but my listening comprehension was a catastrophy. I got only half of the questions right at average. Of course, some tests were easier and some harder, but... Phew.
He lives in Los Angeles, and I don't where there exactly. He is Finnish and has a Finnish name, so I should think you wouldn't forget him if you'd actually meet him. Also, he has the funniest nose ever. If you ever see a Finnish guy with a funny nose, say hello from me *a grin would go here*
Yeah, well, it's the same for me, too. I can listen to people speak different sorts of English and be like "yeah, that one's from Australia and that one's Irish" and what do you know, they were from New Zealand and Scotland. I can imagine how troublesome this might prove to be when I meet some Scottish guy and be all exited "Oh, wow, you're Irish! That's so cool!!!11" and he hates me forever because he's a proud Scot and not some jolly Irishman. Then he comes with his gang and they beat me up for being a fool. Luckily, I have a huge gun hidden in my pocket and boy, am I getting carried away here.
Praise the Admins for taking away that dreaded 1000 character limit! -
November 25th, 2008 4:09 PMDGexeOh really? Where in California, if I may ask? ... That'd be odd if we knew each other, now that I think on that... oo Ahem, anyway! Why Texas? Because I lived there almost all of my life (so far), and I love it. The humity wasn't that great, but it wasn't dusty or icky... They can make a mean chilli in Texas, and we freaking know how to barbarque! *nodnods*
xD I wish I had an Irish accent-- I apparently still have my southern accent from living in Texas, but it's not as notciable now as it once was. I have no idea why you're telling me this either; maybe it's because my thicker accent for Father Anderson sounds more Scottish than Irish... ? Darn my being an American! It all sounds different to me, but I can't mimic it in my writing. Phooey.
And I have that issue with the Spanish language; as part of our lessons, we had to listen to people talk and then do worksheets on them. They always spoke so darn fast to me that it all went right over my head as well and left me all "wtf?"ish. D: -
November 25th, 2008 4:01 PMAn-chanMy uncle lives in California. I've never visited him, though. I'd sure like to. Expecially now when it's so damn cold here >:[ And it's no wonder you missed the part where I asked as I edited it in afterwards ^-^'' So, no big. Oh, and why Texas?
If I were to be a native English speaker, I'd want to speak it the Scottish way
no, seriously, I'd want to speak some more distinguishable dialect. Like when I study Japanese, I try to study as much Kansai dialect as I can. I love weird ways to speak! I also like the Australian way of speaking English. But, anyway, the point was that I once read a blog that was written in Scottish dialect, so I can read it all right. That guy used "Ah" instead of "I". He capitalized it every time, though. I don't know why I'm telling you this
I have serious problems with listening French. They just speak too damn fast! I can read and write the language alright, but whenever a Frenchman speaks, it just all goes straight over my head. I might understand some ten words of it and in the end I find out three of those words really weren't there... -
November 20th, 2008 3:55 PMDGexeI can imagine indeed, for sure. *always had issues when learning Spanish herself; primarily her's was in listening, not reading accents, but still...* It was a pain in the rear.
xD Oh gosh, I read that as "There's also the upside that by reading something upside-down, I also learn to read something like that"-- I kept imagining you on your head, reading my fic. *idiotic moment* Still, that's good that you're slowly understanding it; very good, for sure. Fortunately, I think the extent of my accent-usage will go to the narrator's, a German one, and... my shoddy attempts at Irish (which is simply a slightly altered version of the narrator's, for now). That Irish one ought to be kind of easy, since it's pretty much the same... just a little thicker.
For example... *rambles*
"I can't b'lieve ya just did tha', ya idiot!" -- thinner, narrator's.
"Ah can't b'lieve ya just did tha', ye idiot!" -- thicker, Father Anderson's
Missed your part about where I live, as well; California, USA-- I'd rather be in Texas, however. -
November 20th, 2008 3:51 PMAn-chanYes, that was indeed me. I've been reading stuff in English actively for only about half a year or so, and thus have problems with some structures and vocabulary. You can imagine how challenging it is for me to read that accent
but I manage well enough. It just takes a bit more time.
There's also the upside that by reading something like that, I also learn to read something like that. Just that not everyone is as motivated as I am. So, I wanted to point it out to you. But I understand it was a good thing, no?
By the way, if I may ask, where in the English-speaking world do you live? I'm just curious about the time difference, that's all... -
November 20th, 2008 3:43 PMDGexeHeh, perhaps that would be fair; there's the OVA for Hellsing floating around the 'net somewhere too; I've been meaning to watch it, to see if/how they give some of the characters accents in the English versions. *doesn't know what kind of an accent one of the characters has* That reminds me... you were the one who inquired about accents in my dialogue, right?

November 20th, 2008 3:37 PMAn-chanAwrighty.
I do have the bad habit of being extremely curious and thus finding out all the facts and plot summaries I can for a certain series - if provoked - but I don't feel like doing that right now. I might do it later on. After all, my boyfriend would like to get the whole anime of Hellsing from somewhere and watch it, but I haven't been quite as enthusiastic about that. Maybe it would be fair towards him to find out what the series is about. I dunno. -
November 20th, 2008 3:31 PMDGexeWell... *scratches her head* I'm not entirely sure. How about I get around to actually writing, and I'll let you have a look for yourself? That would be easier, for now, since I barely have chapter 2 down (*was planning on writing that over the weekend*). Pfft, and forget zhe Alucard. He's not in this.
*would also be lazy and tell you to look everything up, but that's rude... unless... you wanted to research for yourself in conjuction with her fic...* But still, lemmie see how my explanations go first... when I get there, okey? -
November 20th, 2008 3:14 PMAn-chanHmm. But will it be a pain if I don't understand it well enough? Or what if I simply try and make my own conclusions? It's just that I get easily sucked into a story and then it'd be a real pain to stop because I can't quite comprehend what's going on. I mean, all I know about Hellsing is that there is a guy with a cape and a gun and he shoots people. Or something like that.

-
November 20th, 2008 2:55 PMDGexeWell, I haven't gotten full depth into the Hellsing aspects of it; however, if I did as well describing those parts as I did in my abandoned make of the fic, then yes, non-Hellsing folks should be able to understand it well enough.
-
November 20th, 2008 12:31 PMAn-chanYay!
Now, there's something I have to ask you. You've said that your fic is Hellsing/Pokémon. I'm very into fics right now and I want to read a lot of them, so I'm interested in trying your fic. However, I've never read or watched Hellsing. Would I understand what's going on? -
November 20th, 2008 8:08 AMDGexe:D Oh yay fwiends! *chuckles* I wouldn't mind at all being your friend, An-chan!
-
November 20th, 2008 7:25 AMAn-chanHello.
You're one of the only FF-loungeans I havent befriended yet. But I certainly want to have you as my friend, too ^-^ So, would you mind if I sent you a friend request?
