PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT AHAHAHA i cannot take you seriously anymore

ehh back to dudes with roy mustang. That was my pathetic attempt at genderbending.

I think I'm reasonably happy with the status quo. If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for me XD There are those times when I think to myself that everything in this world can crash and burn as long as I get what I want. But people deserve better. I do agree that the illusion of choice + money in democracy + capitalism should be fixed. I think the world would be 100x better if people just became aware and angry of how their political systems affects them XD Forget about doing something about it, I'd be a lot happier if people just saw it for what it is instead of repeating slogans of freedom.

I'm a lot happier when I see China, as poor and as corrupt as it is, with hundreds of thousands of people demonstrating in the streets. I look at America and I see people pointing fingers at China while they lay back gaining weight in their armchairs. That's not the full picture of course, but even then it does all the informed and active citizens a disservice. Or maybe that's just how I view people I don't agree with :P I really don't like political complacency.

Yeah what's your Skype? :P I don't usually call though, but Skype is really nice to have.

On the topic of white-washing, I came across this yesterday on Facebook: http://www.xojane.com/it-happened-to-me/asian-woman-dating-asian-men-jenny-an

It was very o.O to me. This comment tho: "Not even a loss. Let them have her" XDDDDDDDDDDDDD +1

I'm not Palestinian nor am I one of those liberal folk but Palestine is one of those issues I feel strangely interested in. The settlements and checkpoints just do not sit well with me. And I find it difficult to take Israel's claims of self-defense seriously anymore: there might be a rocket coming out of Palestine that kills five Israelis, but then the retaliation ends up killing sixty Palestinians. I think there's a lot of misinformation and posturing that's going on in the media, with each side aiming to cast itself as the victim. It's easier for me to sympathize with the little guy.

I'm laying it back a little now XD Every now and then I'll do a tl;dr. Thanks for your concern.

Breaking this into two posts for your consideration haha.

I think I play both sides of the fence equally, actually. I communicate with both sides of my family on a somewhat regular basis, and I like enough about both cultures to not feel uncomfortable (though visiting home countries is another story :P). I take it you can speak Mandarin as fluently as English then, huh? Bit of a tangent, but would you mind if I tried practising with you sometime? I'm trying to pick it up again and I suck royally at it.

And no offense to your friend, but no flowery terms is going to make it not "whitewashing" haha. It's intriguing as well as scary how the concept of the melting pot works...I like people coming together but I don't like wonderful parts of their cultures being erased. I'd love my kids to be able to speak both languages for example but I know I'm not half as fluent as I ought to be and that's going to continuously diminish, especially if I marry someone outside of my races (I think I might lel).

I suppose you could say I'm disengaged in the sense that I don't care particularly about their politics or anything; I identify with the idea of "global citizenry" rather than geographical/political borders. Along that vein, I care deeply about the Palestinian issue, but not because I'm half-Palestinian...it's because they are humans being oppressed and slaughtered and being treated as less than human. Everyone should care about Palestine because of that. And in this particular instance it's easy to know where the blame lies; there is one aggressor and one victim. You take race out of the equation and no one can accuse you of "anti-semitism" (such a misused, played-out card anyway).

You're doing a great job as mod, so don't overthink it :P People will drop in wherever they want to, you just kick back and watch it happen. I'll try to contribute some topics here and there as well!

J-john, you're a girl now?! And dat chick in your sig tho hnggg

I think you do a discredit to communism with that parallel :P Feminism, as far as I can tell, fights for the rights of one subset of people while demonising another -- hardly utopian. But maybe I'm just getting this from the loudest people, I dunno; no one will give me a straight answer and instead accuses me of some "woman hate" or "ignorance" just for asking a sincere question. Oh well...

To put it straight, I'm not happy with the status quo. I think humanity at large is being cheated and taken advantage of by greedy old men who revel in asserting authority and dominance over us. Money and "power" over other nations means everything in today's world, and blood is readily spilled in pursuit of those two. You may think this a bit conspiratorial, but part of my dislike of nationalism (as you've witnessed :P) for example is because I feel it is part of an overarching plan of keeping us subservient. Blind loyalty stops people from asking questions, makes them complacent. And so I want things to change.

I want to find something that does justice by us and allows us to live in harmony. Something that will abolish the seats of "power" entirely and prevent anyone from taking them again. So when searching, I try to take things on their own merit and understand them before I pass judgement: you want a solution, you have to consider every option, right? In truth I don't know enough about communism right now to say that I'd want it outright, but I know it is definitely more fair and rational than any other system we've seen. I know I'm definitely not happy with this democracy + capitalism cocktail most of the world is drinking, and I'm sure many people would agree. Illusion of choice + money over all...how anyone is okay with this is beyond me.

Really busy? You can say that again XD School's back and it's just ughh drained of ideas for threads - brains thinking about protein instead

I dunno about martial arts and pop culture - I don't know much about Chinese pop culture, but I'm not really one for any kind of pop culture anyways XD Don't know what's going on with Hollywood celebs either.

I'm starting get the feeling that communism is kind of like feminism: both utopian, both can't figure out a roadmap getting from today to utopia - as if that is possible, and in both the loudest people attract hate from the rest of the population. There's a lot I don't know about Marxism though, and I guess I'll catch up on the reading sooner or later. Why are you interested in it? It isn't often that you find someone else who's interested, most people are either indifferent or hostile. It's a shame that people avoid it though - whether you agree or disagree with the content, it's still fascinating stuff.

I'm wondering how you connect with your parents' background. People assimilate differently: I'm pretty engaged with my roots, if you'd take my word for it, but a friend of mine has "devalued her culture and traditional knowledge" (in her own words, personally I read it as whitewashed *smug smile*). People can be engaged or disengaged, sympathetic or critical, so I'm interested where you fall on those two scales. Especially with roots in Palestine, are you big on that?

D&D has long been my favourite place as well. I don't always know what the community wants though :P I thought the Single Issue Voter thread would kick off, but maybe it's too technical, I'm not sure. There has to be a balance between the easy-to-post topics and the intellectually meaty ones that really force you to pick it apart. Everything's a compromise :P

Happy Christmas John, hope you had an awesome time. Have just been really busy lately.

I FOUND YOU IN THE THREAD -- dude you look cool, better than those girly popstars for srs. You should have a picture of yourself as your avatar instead!

Question: are martial arts still considered part of Chinese pop culture? Like is it the "cool" thing to get into or seen as something for the older gen? One day I wanna just take a year or so off and join some Wushu school up in the mountains or something (apparently they still exist!).

Most people here are of the Western mentality I think, and while we've got quite a few open minds, I'd guess that everyone probably understands Communism the way our governments want us to: as an innately evil and unjust system. Personally I think it's the best humanity has come up with so far, but still lacking heavily (like everything else).

Just so you know, I'm not picking on China or anything...most of the world sucks at handling everything ever. Like you said, it's about prioritisation, and I think as long as the race for hegemony takes precedence, the common man will always be put on the backburner (assuming we're even on the agenda...).

Contrary to what I sound like, I'm actually really hopeful for the future haha. Don't mind my cynicism.

How do you mean "identify" by the way? I've been in the US all my life (save the occasional trip overseas), dunno if that's gonna change. I've considered Canada but that would require a trip up there first :P D&D has quickly become my favourite place on PC, man. Real intriguing viewpoints.

Ohohoho if you wanna do that then you might have to do a bit of digging hehe.

Note for all the length of his whiskers he is yet unable to grow a full beard. Such are the pains of being Chinese :( Maybe long-bearded sages are revered in China because like nobody gets to be one :( people want what they can't get right?

I'm probably the most supportive of the Communist Party of anybody here on PC :\ Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Probably because I'm pretty familiar with their work and I've got to give credit where it's due hehe.

As for pollution, Chinese smog looks about as bad as what existed in industrial US cities back in the 50's:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2155742/Hell-lid-taken-The-pictures-bygone-Pittsburgh-residents-choking-clouds-smog.html

But back then nobody really knew the harms of air pollution - I think that really took off in the 60's, and as the US eventually de-industrialized nobody cared anymore. I don't know when China will reach its peak of industrialization, and I guess I'll just stand and watch while the pollution worsens. We've all got to prioritize something. As for the peasants, I think it's because of misguided policies. They never addressed the bottom of the issue, which is that local governments provide a lot of services and don't have the money/aren't using it wisely. So they go from one to another, while the perverse consequences all point to one result: continuing peasant burdens. Things will get better as peasants disappear and as wages rise - then local governments wouldn't be as wary about taxing peasants as much.

I think they have beautiful eyes :3 They get a bad rep in China. Just for people rioting and stuff :S and then the police cracking down and limiting religious freedoms and all that good stuff.

Where do you identify? You've been studying in the US for a while now? I've been liking all this activity in D&D lately.

Hahaha duuuude stop you're killing me! And I've never taken a selfie in my life, don't have the vanity for it :P Though I suppose it'd be interesting to see what some of you guys look like (stalking initiated)

Ugh that sounds so gross and so good right now. My post-meal guilt always makes the food not worth it, but somehow I cave and get it anyway. Man I want a chicken junior now agh

You know what I envy though? I have never seen anyone but Chinese people pull this off (I actually don't know if it's real or not):

Man do I want a beard like that. Maybe your two hairs can eventually form this majesty over time, try not shaving! And man, Fair and Lovely is simultaneously funny and depressing. Look at this terrible advert:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgZOWXL1zKw

Tan people wanna be white, white people wanna be tan...I don't get it. And thanks, definitely appreciate your objective approach to basically everything too. Real hard to achieve that. And wait you're not a commie?!

    (jkjkjkjk don't kill ples)

Can't argue the impressive modernisation, but all these rapid advances have brought forth ridiculous amounts of pollution. Is anything actually being done to alleviate this? But with what you're saying about peasants, I wonder if the government would really have cared enough to (symbolically) address it without international pressure :/ It's sad; governments should exist solely for the benefit of the people, but it's always like we're at odds with them (regardless of the country).

Haha, China is the future, it's natural to for convos to shift to it when talking about the world :P Oh btw have you heard much about Uyghurs? Poor people but RIDICULOUSLY GORGEOUS OMG

Hehehe sxc boi ;D Post some up in the selfie thread and watch the ladies (and men) drop panties like it :P

Uhhh I think it all tastes the same :P But the quality is better I think, like the Burger King patties are huge - compared to NA, anyways lol. Chicken Juniors (or perhaps Junior Chickens) are the chicken patty item on value menus! They're come around $4 + tax for 3 of them, and that's about the best use of money you can use to buy chicken, spicy mayo and 1140 calories. Most likely fat.

LOL my avatar isn't me, it's my favourite singer. You can stalk me in the selfie thread :P I'm kind of in your position with my facial hair as it's mostly uneven mustache and a little beard. I have like one hair poking out from each corner of my jaw :( Right, "fair and lovely" XD apparently Indian girls dig that stuff XD

I think you've done a marvelous job of refraining from allowing media hype from affecting your perspective. I really criticize the media hype, but usually it's interpreted as me being a COMMIE YEAH - but no, I find that kind of labeling to be insulting and out of ignorance and fear. As you've demonstrated, it's fully possible to criticize without giving into the hype - so ignorant people probably label because they're insecure about how they're unable to do such a thing >>

It's amazing seeing China's development in person. I go back in 2 year intervals, and every time things change drastically. One year they'll build a gorgeous looking new train station, another year they'll set up high-speed rail, another year they've replaced the decrepit rotting apartments with fresh skyscrapers, so on and so forth. At least in the cities the people are living better lives, and that's something that makes me really happy.

Chinese politics is really messed up. Peasants always get the short stick of everything all the time. For example, the central government abolished taxes on peasants in rural areas. But that just deprived the local governments of funding, and so they found new revenue tools like creating new fees and expanding on old ones. This too eventually became abolished, and now local governments take to land appropriation raise funds (which is why it's in the news all the time nowadays). The problem with taking peasants off the land is that you're depriving them of their livelihood as well as a roof over their heads, so talk about insult to injury, eh? Obviously the local government is still expected to carry out services, development, and investment in certain cases. Next steps include reducing corruption as well as allowing local governments to gain and keep more of their money :P Preferably without disenfranchising the people they serve. And that's just one out of a million problems.

A good thing is that they're talking free-market reforms by 2020. Hopefully everything works out in that respect. Political reform, I'm not looking forwards to it. Mostly because I'm not predicting (or the experts aren't predicting, rather XD) that it to happen soon. Hopefully for 2018-2023 or beyond, fingers crossed.

    Hnnnnngggggggg

LOL @ how topic changed to China in the D&D DCC without any guidance from me >:)

LOL oh you with the flattery, stop. WALL OF TEXT MODE GOOOOOO

Is the taste different? Every time I go overseas I usually have the local food so I never try fast-food stuff. And what's a chicken junior? Must be small if you can have 3 of them in one go (or are fat or both) :P

Yo was that you in your last ava? If it is I can see the "movie-star" thing, def. I actually used to think the lack of body hair prevalent in Chinese people was kinda neat (well maybe still do), people in the West actually wax so be happy with it :P. You'd think my mixture would give me a manly mane early on, but I couldn't even grow facial hair (aside from a little mustache) until I was 20 :( But I guess my Palestinian side is atypical anyway as far as Arabs go; have a lot of blond hair/blue eye relatives and everyone is kinda hairless. And India is diverse, but a lot of Indians (especially from the village my mom hails from) are prejudiced to the core and have a huge skin colour complex. Have you heard of "Fair And Lovely"? That crap is all the rage with my family back home...

Haha dude I'm right with you, I suck at talking to women -- my past self-confidence issues don't help. I don't know how to stop from spilling my spaghetti every time I have to deal with a cute smile or pretty eyes (eyes are major hnggggg factor for me). And those girls were all from Beijing! Had to block, no way to save face after saying "sorry I can't..." :( Some of them were cute too so I wondered why they'd proposition someone a million miles away.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I hate the Chinese government :P No offense. I feel they've squandered and suppressed the creativity and expression of their citisens for decades. I can be nice and say they might be working for the "best interests" of everyone, but really it just comes off to me as a bunch of old men who like being in charge and would use blindfolds to sustain that hegemony instead of allowing people to make informed decisions. Forgive my ignorance if my perspective is off the mark; I avoid media hype and don't include it in my judgements, but maybe I just am not seeing things right from the outside. I'm sure you've picked up that I'm no fan of democracy, but as far as I can tell, what China has is crap too. Culturally, however, I'm in love with it. And I can only hope you're right about eventual development; India is the only country I have visited so far that I wouldn't mind never seeing again. Left such a bad impression on me in the month I was there.

Dude, I LOVE multiracial people (especially Asian mixes haha). It tells me that the family doesn't have cultural hangups and on the whole are typically more open-minded. I think this world needs to mix up the gene pool more (one of the few pluses of America)-- people stop looking the same and you get some unworldly beauty out there sometimes (not including myself here lol). Man just look at this lady:
