They make for pretty stiff reading, huh. Saddens me to think of what the gaming community has become, if they're so blinded by today's overused features in games, and don't commend the stuff that pioneered it all. That's pretty much the same with me, too. It's almost like a Pixar-level movie, and I've gone back and watched those game cutscenes at least twenty times, over the years.

Hah, maybe their 'green' budget got slashed for the second game? xD Yep, actual cars! I think the first one you get is the Sandshark (it's the one that appeared in the opening cutscene of Jak X). Awh! That's awesome! I used to cringe whenever a mission involving driving a vehicle came up. And those three races you had to do in the stadium. Ack. </3

Let's see! Well....Jak's VA ain't the same and his fill in has some cringe-y moments, the graphics are a major step back, the camera is awful, Jak no longer has a gun and cannot transform into Light or Dark Jak, Daxter instead gets a dark form that looks like this and will make absolutely ZERO sense once you've finished the story of Jak 3. I could go on! About the only thing that's even remotely redeemable about game was...aerial combat! That was kinda awesome, especially when you flew straight upwards to do some special thing and the camera would pan in and show you turning. As far as I know, the guys that worked on the 4th Jak game were originally ex-Insomniac devs (dev'ers of Ratchet & Clank).

What really upset me though was I once saw someone say that the 4th game (called Lost Frontier) was better than the original trilogy! Wah!

Oh? Good! I love the races so much! Especially the part straight after you take a racer out, and the game goes into an epic slow-mo showing your opponent crash 'n' burn. I think it's the only racing game I've ever played for PS2. Have fun playing it when you can! I have a steam account but barely use it. </3 PS4, PS3 and PS Vita are my current loves. My poor PS2 is reduced to gathering dust these days, though I do occasionally turn it on to play some Yuigoh games.

Indeed, indeed. Gosh I could reminisce all day if given the opportunity to. xD

Those comments... are the most painful things I've read >.< I want to throw a table or something.
Like I understand that especially in Jak II, things get frustrating from the game being difficult, but I have never felt the series being boring at all. There honestly hasn't been a game that's given me the feels that Jak has so far and I'll be amazed if I find something that actually does.

It was pretty surprising to begin with. Like I started playing Jak II right after the first one and I was surprised with the lack of green xD I'll hopefully finish II (or at least near finish) when my next uni holiday comes up in the next 4 weeks and then will probably slowly get onto playing Jak 3 while my next semester's on - so it'll probably take me a while to finish. Vehicles that aren't zoomers? My bf is having a ball of amusement watching me have difficulty driving round one Haven City which I can miraculously drive fine only once I've hit a Crimson guard xD

No touching the 4th game right? From what I've heard it's horrific, but why exactly? I never knew the same studio made an equally pair of Ratchet and Clank games :s Gosh why does this Studio have to touch such beloved series if they're just going to taint them :(

I am definitely going to get Jak X! Actually I've played it before I had my hands on Jak 2 because my cousin owns it. Haven't actually played much of the story, but just the races on it's own against my cousins is fun as heck! Probs have to be one of my favourite racing games for the PS2 as well :D That's actually the game I'm planning to buy next since it's only about $15 and my bf's been dying for a copy (and hasn't had the time to look for it). Was going to buy it for his birthday and then I realized I couldn't wait till October haha. Man I'm so excited to be buying more games - especially these old school ones. I'm glad I decide to keep my PS2 instead of trading it in - not to mention I haven't spent any money on steam/ humble bundle sales or what not xD

Talking lots is good - especially exciting talks on some of the best childhood games ever made xD

Oh they have, trust me, here's exhibit A and B - and that's only a small fraction of the panning I've found... People don't seem to get that the series is one of the best platformers to date, and arguably a good shooter and racer too.

Mmm-hmm. The whole 'bright and colourful enemies' to stark misery and blanch attmosphere, haha. It is quite a jump at first, and Jak II is imo the hardest & longest in the series. Usually takes me a solid 10 to 11 hours to complete the story. Hopefully you'll enjoy Jak 3! Third game has a lot more vehicle driving in it, and the last boss in particular features a dozy of a vehicle challenge. They really fleshed out the powers in the third game - and you can even transform when you only have a bit of eco collected, unlike the 2nd game, which I maybe only used Dark Jak about three times - once in the sewers, once in Dead Town and once for the final boss.

Hopefully you'll like 'em there's six games of Ratchet & Clank for ps2, but two are PSP ports and are made by a craptastic studio...said dev studio even made a 4th Jak & Daxter game, but for the sake of your sanity, please do not play it! It is horrendous to the extreme. Uck! Sly has only three games on PS2 sadly. There is a fourth game but it's for PS3 and not as good as the others if you ask me.

I still own my PS2 copies. <3 Since you mentioned you have a PS2, you should so pick up Jak X: Combat Racing. Really fun racing game set in the Jak & Daxter universe. It's a fair bit hard, but it's so much like Crash Team Racing, you'd be nuts to pass on it if you liked that old ps1 game.

Also if you can, try and get Ratchet: Deadlocked (also called Ratchet: Gladiator, depending on your region). That's my favourite Ratchet game ever, including the six PS3 games. It's pure combat fighting, and so much fun.

Wow, I talk a lot. <3 But gamesss man. Especially these gems from my childhood. <3

If they're degrading the series I question if they've actually played it? I mean, I have nothing against people who like COD or battlefield, but muk gets serious if you're comparing it and saying it's better than Jak and Daxter - I'd also be questioning whether they'd actually played anything at all decent besides those games. Jak II especially was such a revolutionary game for it's period!

Tonal Shift? Between the first two games? I do have say though that I was definitely not expecting the increase in difficulty between the two xD Legit thought I had a skill decrease before someone told me it was a lot harder than the first. I am Really excited to play Light and dark Jak when I start Jak 3, but it'll be a while before I can play it - I'll admit I don't use Dark Jak much in Jak II so far yet.

Definitely looking forward to playing Ratchet & Clank and Sly, I'll probably be playing them pretty soon after I finish this series. But that's only if I can actually get a copy of it since I'm still living on my PS2 currently xD

Agreed! It really gets me done when I see people deriding the series, though. Said people also seem to be your bread and butter COD, Battlefield, or other insert-annoying-modern-game-of-choice-here types. They don't seem to appreciate it for what it is, or get that upon first release it made huuuge waves in the PS2 era.
Whatcha think of tonal shift? Pretty stark, huh? :P

Each of the big three kinda do their own thing. I like the stealth aspect of Sly, and the space levels in Ratchet & Clank. Jak & Daxter excels on the combat front, though. Love using Dark & Light Jak in Jak 3. <3

Everyone else's loss for not having played an amazing series :pp
I've only recently replayed the first game and finally going through the Jak 2 for the first time so I still haven't achieved the full story yet.
I've only played a little bit of Ratchet & Clank, but none of Sly Cooper, but don't think they'd be able to outrun my current love for Jak and Daxter xD

We seem to be a rare breed, unfortunately </3 Still, Jak & Daxter is my all-time favourite game series, and I even like it more than Sony's other PS2 mascots Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank.
