It isn't time wasting. You need to pass the ball around and draw out the defensive midfielder and defenders to make space. Otherwise, you just run into a wall of about 6 to 8 opposing players.
You haven't played competitive football before, have you.
So what is your strategy?
Lob the ball up front and hope for the best? Or just let one player run straight at the defence and hope he will get through?

Everyone gets angry at them for this "time wasting" with the ball when they should be playing it in the middle of the pitch, if they keep playing it around, it's more likely the opposition will get the ball however, obviously they might not, I guess it depends on the outlook of the game.
