You know, there is nothing wrong with you. But if I'm right, you just have a really low self-belief. You gotta trust yourself! Don't let yourself feel "I'm just me... a guy barely anybody likes/wants to hang around with".

I used to be similar situation as you're in now. My parents were over-protective as well, but they did succeed in keeping me away from smoking and snuff for instance - never even tried them.

But hey - you know how to talk. You just gotta believe in yourself, that's all. Open your mouth when you have something to be said, and don't be afraid of thinking that others will find your words silly. If they accept you to their group, they won't dislike you for it, not at all.

Girls aren't weird You're just not used to being around lots of other people, that's all. Try to get in contact with others. I know it ain't easy, but "growing up" (you know what I mean, growing up to be a more self-confident person) won't happen instantly without practising to get used to being around others either.

And I'm a guy as well
Not sure at all what you have gone through in your life, but it sounds like I had been in a similar situation as you - still two years ago or so. But what I simply did was to spend time in organization activities and getting to know more and more people. After hanging around with people, I didn't know from the start, for a couple of months, I realized that "hey, I'm not the shy guy I used to be anymore!".

I barely talk. I only am talkative when I'm with my family and relatives. And by that, I mean that I can talk a lot of nonsense and even make them laugh.
I just find it difficult to open my mouth to others who aren't even related to me by blood. o.0

I blame how my parents brought me up though. They were too darn over-protective and just left me inside the house, unable to interact with others. So I never learned ‘how’ to ‘talk’ to others...
But my co-workers, whom I already considered friends, are really weird, since they really want me to join them for lunch, and even talk to me. o.0

    And yes, I'm a guy... :/

Sometimes, during my rides on buses either heading to work or heading back home, there are other passengers who talk a lot. And really, they talk a LOT. Mostly females. They talk almost anything, shifting topics that even I couldn't understand how they got there from this topic or that topic...
I can't imagine myself talking to people like closing their mouth would mean the end of the world. Though it would be comical, them talking a lot and me just replying with single words like ‘yeah’ or ‘really’ and etc... xD

    Girls are weird... >.>
If you're a female, then no offense...

But true, if you don't seem to get anything out of your mouth while others are talking, and suddenly, come up with a line or two, they might not be related to the subject at all. I know - I'm somewhere between you and the others.

I see myself being a social person and have no problem talking with a person or two, but in a larger group, I tend to be one of the quite people as well (yes! you don't have to see yourself being "the only one who's not in this thing"). Besides, some people are a bit more shy and quiet than others and that's just how it is. You can change your personality of that aspect just by talking more and getting used to it. But even if a change does not take place, you don't have to be ashamed of not being one of the talkative people. Now assuming you're indeed a boy here, girls don't like guys who can't seem to keep their mouths shut either

Hey, don't take it that way!
I simply said that because when you say something to others that they have not much to contribute to, then it's a "discussion killer" kind of a thing. But even so, that was only a joke and nothing less.

I was actually really surprised to see you take it this way. You feel like a really social person to me.

Yeah uh, sorry about that. That's one of the symptoms of being an anti-social kind of guy. :\
My friends don't mind though, and they understand. They keep on inviting me to eat lunch together, even though I don't usually talk to them. And if they do manage to make me join into their conversation, they're pointing out that my replies are always "discussion killers". :/
I can't really tell if my replies are like those though. That's just how I am. :/

    Aw well~

Alrighty. And true, using the connection for downloading videos for personal usage could be a bad idea.
For some reason, writing in english feels now more difficult than before. I guess that's also because of essays we've had to write of computer science in english as university homework. It's like, you have a "need" to write perfect english instead of just writing whatever comes to mind.

(And I know, this was a "discussion killer" post here! But so was yours )

    I don't have a specific task though. I'm an all-around guy. =/
Depending on what's available to do, I am either given tasks to do PhP, WordPress, edit images, create/edit/fix websites, check video quality, and other things the company receives from online clients. :3

And no, YouTube is not forbidden here, but it's kind of useless for me since the PC I'm using in the office has a malfunctioning sound card, and the company isn't bothered of fixing it.
That, and watching videos slows down the internet, and I don't want fingers pointed at me... >.>

    Okay, gotcha!

What kind of work you're doing / what kind of a company are you working for ?
(And if Youtube is forbidden, PC might not be the best place to hang around at work either )

I can't watch YouTube vids at work, unfortunately, and I can barely touch hacking during the weekdays, but sure!
I've been itching to try out ASM for a while now. I'll check it out in the weekend.

...I just hope my laziness and forgetfulness won't let me forget about it. :\
That happens to me most of the time.

    Well, why not?
If you make use of it, I guess it was worth a shot to do.

But hey, that was no problem at all. When I feel like it, I'd rather help others out if there is a chance they make something out of it.
By the way, if you're interested in getting better, I can promise you that checking my GB/C hacking series in youtube wouldn't hurt. Here's a good example of neat things you can do with knowing how to script, understanding the basic asm codes and loops.

What it basically does is to print the number from ram memory. And after printing, it increases that value to print by 1. After this, it checks if the two-byte value (it has to be a two-byte value because it can get all the values between 0 and 1000) has gone out of the range by reaching 1001. If it hasn't, repeat the process.

And I was bored in the office.

Thanks again for the explanation back in the Simple Questions Thread, by the way.

    Ha, got it! :D

I wouldn't worry about it at all. As for myself, the only reason I don't display my birthday is to keep my identitety secret, I guess? I dunno. Date of birth doesn't say much really but I've simply no reason for showing it everybody.

darn it, only six more hours before the day ends, and someone noticed it's my birthday today! xD

I guess I ain't good at being stealthy.
(the reason why I ain't announcing my bday here in real life is for me to avoid everyone singing the happy bday song to me, and some other things) xD

    Thanks though.
