May 21st, 2010 3:13 PMMegaMaccerHowdy there Wichu, just thought I'd let you know that after much long thought, Torzach is now a game ^^ Oh, and I hope you remember me :P
-
November 18th, 2009 11:46 AMMegaMaccerSounds good. Thanks ^^

November 18th, 2009 8:46 AMWichuI may give it a go later; however, I currently have other priorities. The next ROM hacking tools I'm planning to make are a new cry editor and a footprint editor, so I could give it a go after I finish those two.

November 17th, 2009 5:40 PMMegaMaccerHey there Wichu, not sure if you remember me, or even know who I am :P
Anyway, I'm here with a request/suggestion sort of thing; I know you know how to program, I've seen it in the tools you've made. Well, I personally think that a program that could generate simple scripts (Such as talking scripts, move character, move camera, give item/pokemon, those sort of ones. The ones that most people use most of the time) would be very handy. What do you think? Would it be possible? You could just have a drop down list with the scripts, and once you clicked on that, you could have buttons/text boxes show up, and then you just had to type in what you wanted. For instance, if someone wanted a talking script, they could just scroll down to talking script, type what they wanted in the box, push create, and voila, it writes all the fancy stuff they didn't know how to do. Just a thought, anyway. I'd be more than happy to contribute ^^ -
July 26th, 2009 9:41 PMMegaMaccerJust thought I'd let you know your sig has a message from Photobucket in it saying you've overused your bandwidth ^^ I know I've gone days without noticing...

July 24th, 2009 1:13 AMWichuYou're supposed to insert the front and back sprites at the same time, since to determine the total number of colours on the sprite, it adds together the ones on the front and back. So if you tried inserting a back sprite without a front sprite, it would have used the colours from the old front sprite.
I'll have to fix the bug where it closes, though. I'll make the message more clear, too. -
July 23rd, 2009 5:28 PMMegaMaccerHey, I just downloaded RHXP (It looks excellent, by the way) but I'm having a little trouble. When I try and insert a new sprite, it says "Sprite 16 contains too many colours!" Then it displays another error message and closes. The image isn't indexed, if that makes a difference, but it is a backsprite, and it is 16 colours. I'm using Fire Red, as well. If you need screenshots, I'll try and get'm.

July 17th, 2009 4:55 PMMegaMaccerI see ^^
I don't suppose you are making/have made something to replace unlz, have you? I hate the tool almost as much as it hates me, and if there was an easier, faster way to insert, I'd love to hear about it ^^ -
July 15th, 2009 2:40 AMWichuWell, I only started this project about a week ago... Several months ago, I messed around a bit with A-Map and Sappy, but that's it.
As for why I'm so good, I wouldn't say I'm that good... I'm just using information on how data is stored in the ROM, along with my knowledge of RGSS, to make inserting the D/P Pokémon easier :) -
July 15th, 2009 12:49 AMMegaMaccerHey, just thought I'd stop by again and ask something: When did you get into hacking? And how come all of a sudden you are so incredibly brilliant at it? :P
-
June 7th, 2009 1:52 AMMegaMaccerJust thought I'd pop by and say thanks. Thanks for being one of the first guys to welcome me to the forum, thanks for giving me so much info on the pro's and con's of hacking (I decided to switch to hacking, you may or may not have seen my hack yet :P) But just thanks ^^

March 15th, 2009 12:35 AMMegaMaccerHey Mate, you remember me, eh? Of course you do XD
Anyways, I have a favour to ask (Just like everyone else :D) So do you have instant messenger? PM me it if you do ^^ -
December 24th, 2008 1:23 AMWichuYou'll need to download poccil's Pokémon Essentials starter kit (the link is in his sig).
It comes with a notes file, which describes its features and how to use them; for example, trainer battles and adding new moves.
Most features, such as map connections and trainer's Pokémon, can be edited using the included editor.
Once you read the notes and get the hang of mapping, you should have no problem making a Pokémon game.
As for your offer, I'm not in need of a mapper at the moment. I'd like to see examples of your friend's work, though, and if a mapping position appears, I'll let you know. -
December 23rd, 2008 2:52 PMMegaMaccerK, looks like I'll be moving to RPG Maker.... :) Is it very hard to learn how to use it? I can't find many tutorials on how to make a pokemon game with it, but maybe someone could give some hints..... (hint hint ;)) Having as many pokemon as we want would be a huge advantage, because it was hard deciding which ones to remove from the hack. I'll definetly check out the program, and once again, if you need any help, I could help with mapping, and my friend could get you some concept art, she is an amazing artist but not that great a spriter, if you know what i mean. We would love to help, or at least try, even if our stuff never actually made it to the game. Would you consider giving us a chance? thanks

December 23rd, 2008 1:10 AMWichuFirstly, one of the things which turns people away from RMXP (RPG Maker XP) is that it costs $60. If you're not prepared to pay, you might want to stick to hacking. You do get a 30-day free trial, which gives you some time to save up.
Anyway, the advantages of RMXP are its flexibility and ease of use. Because you can see the raw code behind it, not just hex, it's much easier to change the actual mechanics, such as add D/P moves. Graphics are less limited too, since you don't need to stick to tight palettes. Mapping is more verstile, and usually easier. Eventing in RMXP is generally much easier than scripting in a hack.
However, you need to learn to use the features effectively. Mapping is only easier once you get to grips with the engine, and if you don't learn RGSS (the scripting language used), you can forget about adding new moves.
Also, hacking has two main advantages; firstly, RMXP games tend not to have move animations, since it's impossible to convert GBA or DS animations to work in RMXP. Secondly, if you have a flashcart, hacks are playable on an actual GBA/DS, but RMXP needs Windows to run.
For the type of game you're making, I'd recommend using RMXP. If you want it like Amethyst, hacking isn't going to get you very far.
Also, in a hack, you'd have to replace existing Pokémon to add new ones, while in RMXP, you can have as many as you want.
Oh, and if you get good at other things, such as mapping and scripting, you'll easily be able to find someone willing to help with spriting ;)
