July 9th, 2011 12:49 AMLashhThat's a concept I live by. But trust me, a lot of people aren't born with rhythm- I sure as hell wasn't. It was something I had to learn and work on, and now I can play some pretty good full length metalcore songs. While I don't really write poetry, I do have lyrics I've written that rhyme well together. I might post tidbits from time to time, maybe.
I'm gonna have to keep up with it then, haha. Damn, I still haven't found any free time to catch up on it, but I think I might have some tomorrow. And I like that you don't have an exact number of chapters planned, that means the fic could take any cliffhanging turn, right? Anyways, I don't remember what it's like writing one-shots, as I haven't written one for awhile. But I do remember the last one I wrote. It was under the M rating and it was so brutal and sad, I didn't even release it here on PC. All I need to tell you about it is Charmander, a cruel trainer, and death. I did release one here that involved Cubone, Team Rocket and death, though. I think I was very pissed when I wrote those, haha XD; -
July 9th, 2011 12:35 AMMisheard WhisperYeah, that's the idea. They say if you work hard enough, you can be whatever you want to be. I'm not sure how much I believe that, but there is some truth to it, at least. Being a musician is something that would be cool, I think - I do love music - but I have no talent or sense of rhythm whatsoever; writing poetry is difficult enough for me. I admire anyone who can make music like that.
Hmm, well . . . there's no exact number of chapters planned, because my long-term plan isn't really that detailed. We could be looking at a couple of hundred, though. One-shots are still probably my favourite form of writing, though. I loved writing Crushed, Broken, and New Game so much. I plan to keep writing short-form fiction for quite some time. But yes, I can see Champion Game running - more or less weekly - for a couple or three years. -
July 8th, 2011 1:35 PMLashhI wish you luck with that dream. Work hard enough and you'll succeed, right? That's something I've always heard from the musicians I look up to. While I am into creative writing, I'm a guitarist, and I dream of being a part of the next wave of metal music.
How many more chapters do you have planned in Champion Game? I also want to complete the fic I'm working on. While it may be some tough work to complete an OT fic, creating my own version of a trainers journey is something I've always wanted to write. I may write a one shot here or there- there is this one song called Becoming the Dragon by Trivium that gave me an idea of writing a Magikarp-Gyarados one shot, mainly because the line "transform from koi into a beast, dragon." haha -
July 8th, 2011 12:53 PMMisheard WhisperYeah, you've hit the nail on the head there. If I hadn't been posting fanfiction on the internet these past few years, there is absolutely no way I could have improved the way I have. A career as an author is no longer a pipe dream - it's actually a possibility, albeit still a long-term goal.
Yeah, the purpose is to make people feel something. When I write fanfiction, I never used to bother with putting any sort of 'purpose' in the work. I think that's why I found it so easy to drop them - because they didn't hold any sort of special attraction or magnetism for me. Of course, Broken's a one-shot, so it's not a question of dropping it, but the point stands in regards to Champion Game. I'm not starting any new chapterfics until it's finished, and with the internet as my witness, I want people to hold me to that. :> -
July 8th, 2011 2:42 AMLashhWell, that's just the thing about this form of art- constant improvement. Which is what makes it great and fun.
Oh, lol. I'm still going to read it, though. I don't let petty reasons like favorites get in between me and a good fic. The purpose is to evoke emotion, correct? And it's always interesting to see a [M] side of fanfiction, it adds a completely new aspect to the story. Plus, I'd rather not miss out on a reading opportunity that could influence my writing in any way, haha. -
July 8th, 2011 2:30 AMMisheard WhisperAh, well, I feel the same way about my fanfiction from that era. Hell, even the stuff I wrote a couple of months ago seems crappy when I look back at it.
Ooh, well . . . If you're that fond of Mightyena, you may not like Broken so much. >_< -
July 8th, 2011 2:23 AMLashhYep, wayy back in like 2009, haha. I don't even like to think about my fanfiction back then, I consider it horrible compared to now. Even though I honestly still make quite a few grammatical errors, like the ones Astinus pointed out in my current fic, haha.
I just got done reading New Game, and I liked it. I'll give your other one shots a read when I'm not writing and not as tired, lol. I'm looking forward to Broken, Mightyena is one of my favorites. -
July 8th, 2011 2:17 AMMisheard WhisperOn another note, I do believe I remember seeing - and maybe even reviewing - some fanfiction under your original account. Did you have an Aipom avatar at some point?

July 8th, 2011 2:16 AMMisheard WhisperHehe, thanks. I'm always glad to hear someone likes my fics!

July 8th, 2011 2:02 AMLashhI very much like Champion Game, I've only read the first couple chapters so far and it's pretty darn engaging.
