January 21st, 2015 1:34 PMAlexander NicholiAlright, fair enough.

January 21st, 2015 8:14 AMEl Héroe OscuroThanks, but I'm going to humbly deny your offer. I would however recommend use that technical power by creating another server for a different online game other than Minecraft to create variety for Video Games, but that's up to you. However, I'm going to maintain control over the PokeCommunity Minecraft server and continue running it through BeastNode.

January 21st, 2015 4:21 AMAlexander NicholiI'm not asking you to do that, God. D: That would be crazy.
There's surely a way you can copy the server into an archive for me to download and copy over physically. I would not ask to do this if that wasn't an option. o.O -
January 21st, 2015 4:19 AMEl Héroe OscuroNo. The entire server we have already built would be completely wiped, including everything that everyone has built thus far. I can't do that.

January 21st, 2015 4:15 AMAlexander NicholiHehe, sorry. xD
I'd like to have PC's Minecraft server physically at home, managed by me. It'll run through my broadband which will hopefully have denent enough transfer speeds. The buying of the parts for the new server and its upgrades will all be paid for by me – also, it's not something I want to do immediately. With me managing and paying for it the only complaints anyone should have with performance will be because of internet. If you truly feel obligated to help me pay or what your money can go to the internet bill (I already get $60/mo free), but I am not going to obligate any money from you or others. -
January 21st, 2015 4:06 AMEl Héroe OscuroWait, slow down. You're being way too technical right now. Are you staying you're trying to move the server from the one were using right now to the one you want to build?

January 20th, 2015 10:01 PMAlexander NicholiHey Matt. I just wanted to check back and touch base about the server thing I mentioned earlier.
I put together a build sheet for a working server box on PC Part Picker, here. The Xeon CPU is going to shine with its application and we'll have plenty of room to add more memory if need be, though I started it out with 8GiB. The SSD is going to keep read and writes to the server itself nice and smooth, and if need be we can up it to a 250GB SSD on down the road (I can clone it over).
The keyboard is the one I'm using right now with my netbook externally, by the way. When I get around to buying the thing I'll have already bought my personal setup with its own keyboard and mouse and retired this little thing, and why waste money. The server will be running on CentOS 6.4 64-bit.
Now, the hardware's all sound, but we could possibly have an issue with bandwidth. Even though our main ISP, Time Warner Cable, provides inbound speeds of up to 50 Mbps, their outbound speeds even for business class cap out at 5 Mbps, which may be a bit slow for the server. I don't think their Dedicated Internet Access is available on residential lines, though tomorrow I could call and check to be sure. I'm waiting on fibre service just as much as the next guy.
While we don't have fibre, here is a press release from my town about the potential for Google Fiber to lay groundwork for our metro. Living here for a long time, I'll of course give you my two cents on it.
I have a really strong feeling Google will in fact bring their fibre service to Raleigh and its satellites. Why? We're right where the Medical Research Triangle is situated. The insane amount of really high-wealth customers that would clamour for fibre internet access for their businesses is too much for any fibre business to resist. I dare say Google may be on a time crunch with other vendors like Verizon to lay the wires. And, there's a lot of businesses outside the metro for Google to want to lay for greater Raleigh too – not to mention the sheer number of residential folks who work in these high-wealth money pits who would like fibre in the home. Forbes even named Raleigh and its satellites the second fastest-growing metro in the United States, and for good reason too. I'm sure it'll make it's debut around here. -
January 18th, 2015 9:39 PMAlexander NicholiAlso, as for the service type, this is what I'd be looking at. Betwen 3Mbps and 10Gbps over fibre, provided they have it where I live.
I really should move :P -
January 18th, 2015 9:35 PMAlexander NicholiI don't want to obligate money from you, unless you're keen on doing that. I'm not thinking of really getting anything remote were I to do it; rather, it would be a matter of saving back (an easy matter) the cash for a physical computer tailored to its purpose, building it, and the only major cost being bandwidth. Even over coaxial cable Time Warner offers amazing service at a premium, at least here.
I'm also slowly gaining a family reputation as a tech guy, and would love to build more than just a personal PC. For the experience, you know.
By the way, back when I ran the supporter Minecraft server, it was unmanaged (presumably unlike the main one now), so I have a minimum of knowledge about doing all of the things with Bukkit by hand, with YAML files and all. If you could use that. -
January 18th, 2015 9:28 PMEl Héroe OscuroI'll definitely look into it. I know there's been a lot of lag recently due to either the amount of people and/or the amount of buildings on the server. However, because parents are through PayPal, I don't believe that the payment can be broken down to be split between numerous people. Which kindove sucks.

January 18th, 2015 9:23 PMAlexander NicholiNo no, I understand it's yours... um, do you have access to the server's files? If a migration was done that would be important.
I just wanted to help if there were any limitations or bottlenecks the server might be experiencing... since I can't get on. I'd definitely leave all the management to you, I don't want to do that, I just want to finance something beefier if need be. And I could help with some things you're having trouble with if you want. That was my idea, originally. As far as the server goes I'd just like to play, but pay for more if the place needs it. -
January 18th, 2015 9:19 PMEl Héroe OscuroI was more just confused at the actual questions, considering to me it had a lot of tech terms lol.
To (hopefully) answer your question, I pay out of my own pocket for this server. I run through a host site called Beastnode which provides the server and functions to allow mod's and such for a given monthly price. They are the ones who keep everything constantly up and running while I'm the one who pays for their services. PC doesn't pay for our Minecraft server; rather, it's mine.
