Whaaat i responded to this but idk where my message went.

What I was trying to say...is that yeah, in game doesn't matter at all, but it is almost required for competitive and frontier.

    Also wanna swap 3ds friend codes? :D Mine is 2981 5499 6770

EV training is definitely too much effort for npcs. In fact in game it is better, imo not to ev train because the random evs you get from the varied encounters mean you end up more balanced, capable of taking hits and dishing them out, and npcs don't really use any hardcore competitive strategies. Team building is fine, like picking a favorite and centering the other pokemon around it, but don't bother min/maxing them :p

does this work well in-story or is it too much effort for random npcs?

Pick whatever you want your team centered on, and build around that. I wanted typhlosion, so I picked whimsicott for priority sunny day and tailwind to boost eruption and ensure I am faster than anything else.

see that'd be all i need to actually do the thing on the go because like there's this wonderful app- ultradex pro- that has IV calculator, nature guide, what pokemon give which effort points, so much convenient info. i'd just have to have a fully realized goal to put that info to use.

By the time I started ev training, I had a little book that I would write down Nature, item, ability, moveset, required evs, and then room for all the ev's per page. I had so much fun raising my initial set of pokemon :D I did Typhlosion, Roserade, ninjask, Gallade, Electivire, and Tyranitar. I also had a Milotic I tried with some success, but I ended up liking Ninjask's style more. :P
