October 5th, 2011 7:16 PMAquacordeHowever, children make up their own minds. Sometimes parents can't do anything about it.
-
October 5th, 2011 7:15 PM-Jared-Which kinda boils down to what lots of people say: The parent's role in the students life. :\
-
October 5th, 2011 7:13 PMAquacordeBut that's the problem with the proposed rewards as well. Really the whole issue is that- student attitude.
-
October 5th, 2011 7:09 PM-Jared-That would probably be best, but I do know that many students would be too apathetic to take it seriously. :\
-
October 5th, 2011 6:51 PMAquacordePoll the students. What do they want? What would they strive for?
-
October 5th, 2011 6:45 PM-Jared-Yeah...but it will be necessary to figure out the proper incentives. That would probably be the biggest obstacle in terms of it;s success. :\
-
October 5th, 2011 6:39 PMAquacordeIt could, it could. Worth a shot at least.
-
October 5th, 2011 6:34 PM-Jared-Hmmm....but it is probably better than the current system right? Could it be institued and fine tuned as necessary?
-
October 5th, 2011 6:24 PMAquacordeI know that idea works for some but very rarely did I see it end up happening tbh. Most people are too lazy... and I can't think of any ways to up the ante.
-
October 5th, 2011 6:19 PM-Jared-That's a good idea. That way the student that already has proven they know the material gets to go have free time (hopefully used to be productive in harder classes) and the student that needs the review has to stay and participate. And if the students take the time off, they won't even be in class to see who is still there, thus hopefully eliminating the who "visibility" factor.
-
October 5th, 2011 6:13 PMAquacordeWell getting things done could warrant exemption from certain busywork/review assignments or have them count as extra credit- I know some teachers who do that. Also the opportunity to opt out of class on review days or w/e.
-
October 5th, 2011 6:08 PM-Jared-I...haven't quite thought that out, lol.
You can't do anything that would be public because that becomes controversial. You probably can't do anything money based, and besides, not many school could afford giving money for grades. You have any ideas? -
October 5th, 2011 6:02 PMAquacordeYes but what privileges and rewards are you using as incentive? Nobody has recess anymore, you're not allowed to take away lunch, detention/suspension/ISS is a punishment not a reward, etc etc.
-
October 5th, 2011 5:55 PM-Jared-No, I mean about the reward system. How in order to get the rewards, you have to accomplish a large of of the assigned homework, as well as score well on the homework and tests. And I didn't necessarily mean that those figures were what I thought were right, I was just giving examples. That way, the student, at the beginning of the year when most of what is being taught is review, has a lower standard to aim for, and as the material gets more complicated, they have to work harder to retain their privileges.
What your GPA and individual grades are based on should be based primarily on tests. Rewards should be based on work. Right? -
October 5th, 2011 5:48 PMAquacordeQuite frankly, no. I've always been an advocate of at least 70% of a grade being test-based.
