December 11th, 2011 4:37 AMRogue planetYeah so far I've only listened to their full LP, We Are Lonely Animals, the one The Weight of Loss is Whole is on; haven't heard Horned and Blind P. 1. There's a lot more strings on the LP, and I agree with you, the dramatic parts aren't too appealing, but they're few and far between.

December 11th, 2011 3:56 AMEliminator Jr.I usually have a few albums in my downloads folder (ie. unmoved), but none at the moment. I'm going through one of those phases where there's tonnes of albums you want to listen to all at once but just don't have the time, so haven't really got into anything new recently.
As for BraveYoung (I think Giant was a better name), I listened to Horned and Blind Part 1 and the guitars and strings were so great! Especially the reversing near the start of the song. The two things that brought the song down were the drums - not necessarily what the drums were playing, but the way they have been produced. It sounds overly theatrical. The other thing was the vocals. I don't mind that it's screaming but that particular vocalist I didn't like much. Lyrics I'm willing to look over because if I was going to be enjoying this song they wouldn't be a main focus anyway.
So I'll definitely listen to them a few more times, see what I think. They definitely have good aspects to their music, and the guitar/string parts I can definitely take inspiration from in writing my own music. If the drums weren't so overly heavy/dramatical and the vocalist was (imo) better this would definitely be on high rotation. Good find.
(just listened to another song called The Weight of Loss and it's really good! Why can't the vocalist sing like this all the time?) (just listened to Stories - I mean even in this the vocals aren't too dissimilar from Horned and Blind but they sound so much better and in place in this song) (I'm definitely going to check out this band more) (and stop speaking in brackets)
I listened to two songs of A Cold Dead Body. The first one the guitar tone was really Megadeth/Michael-Angelo-Batio-ish (don't know how else to describe it, I'm not talking about the high-pitch shredding sound but you know that really rough, metally guitar tone?) which meant I couldn't find the song enjoyable. The second one I listened to had a part with two people singing vocals in a low which I didn't like, and a bad guitar solo which didn't really fit the song. The softer parts of the songs were good, but when it got really metally it was mostly bad.
But I'm definitely going to check out Giant/BraveYoung more though. Thanks for the recs! I'll try and think of something for you to check out. -
December 10th, 2011 11:35 AMRogue planetMan forgot about your last VM lol. I don't like ****ed Up either, just nothing appealing about their music to me. Still not listened to Wildlife, I haven't been in a post-hardcore mood tbh. I have like 30 albums just sitting on my desktop for whenever I am in the mood to listen to one of them lmao. I don't like moving something to my music folder before I have listened to it.

December 10th, 2011 11:33 AMRogue planetYou heard Braveyoung? Discovered them today, atmospheric post-rock kindof band.
Also, A Cold Dead Body, much heavier though. -
October 6th, 2011 5:21 PMEliminator Jr.I'm exactly the same, a tonne of my friends think Battles are awesome and I really don't see the appeal. Like there are a few good things about the music but songs like Atlas are just irritating with such awful vocals.
Touche Amore I've been meaning to get into for ages. As of now, I've got two of their songs which were on a split release they did with La Dispute (I'll Get My Just Deserve and I'll Deserve Just That). At first the vocals were a little off-putting but eventually it grew on me and now I love it. I honestly don't know why I haven't downloaded one of their albums yet. As for ****ed Up, I've never really liked them much, mostly because of the vocals but now also because of the lamest video clip I think I've ever seen in "Queen of Hearts" haha
I didn't know you liked La Dispute, that's cool. Have you listened to Wildlife yet? -
October 6th, 2011 5:56 AMRogue planetoh yeah and have you heard Touche Amore or ****ed Up?
They reminded me of La Dispute (which I like); I don't personally like either of them though, but you might. -
October 6th, 2011 5:53 AMRogue planethaha oh my god
Not such a big fan of ASIWYFA anymore anyway. I saw them live sometime last year, can't even remember. I was significantly underwhelmed and my interest faded since then.
I remember you posted this in a thread somewhere before and I liked it. My taste has changed ridiculous amounts though, I don't really listen to post-rock/math-rock anymore. But yeah, I can still appreciate it.
I never really liked Battles either, lots of people rave on about them but I really NEVER saw the appeal. I think their latest album is alright; only song I ever return to is Wall Street though. -
October 6th, 2011 5:04 AMEliminator Jr.I thought it might have been you because of the lol at the end. I'm going to take that as a yes :)
Anyway, my mid-years went alright, I'm sure you were worried sick. Yes, I'm doing this - I just had to beat your two-month VM response time by taking fifteen months and definitely didn't just look at our conversation history and realise that I've completely forgotten to respond to you over a year ago.Originally Posted by VendakGreat, I can use this as an excuse for my own (slightly longer) major delay. Anyway, I had a listen to And So I Watch You From Afar. Overall, I don't like them but there are definitely some parts of some of their songs which I really like, and aspects of their music. It just sounds a little too metal-y for me (that's in a I-don't-like-the-tone-on-the-guitars way, not in an all-metal-is-automatically-gay way). So yeah.. mainly the guitar tones I guess, although at times the drums are a little.. simple, which usually I've got no problem with but in math rock cool drums is one of the aspects I enjoy the most. But if you're actually interested in which bits I like and don't like - the part from 1.40 to 2.15 in this song are awesome, especially the drums but especially everything else too. After that point I would like it if it weren't for the drums playing such a drum machine-esque beat. So definitely good aspects but the bad outweigh the good for me.
Speaking of metal-y sounding math rock - I was going to link you to this metal-y sounding song by a math-rock band called LITE but then I realised that Ghost Dance is much better so yeah, click here. You may not like it, the main complaint people have is that it's too repetitive. I don't want to bombard you with Youtube videos (actually I do but I'll refrain) so this is the last one. Same band, newer stuff and it sounds a lot like Battles. I don't like Battles personally but they have good aspects in their music and that's what I picked up on this song a lot (it sounds a bit like their song Tonto), so I thought you might like it. The Battles part happens a bit later than 2.25 but it'll just sound weird without the build-up, so if you don't want to listen to the whole thing start from there. Link
But there - finally that's the reply. Thanks for waiting :D
And I officially forfeit the 15 month record as of now, just in case you were planning on beating it. -
October 6th, 2011 2:53 AMRogue planethaha idk who else it would be

October 5th, 2011 8:48 PMEliminator Jr."dude this is freakin awesome; you know who i am lol"
Is this you? Can't figure it out for the life of me. -
June 2nd, 2010 12:18 AMEliminator Jr.Oh hey, just letting you know I got your VM and I'll get back to it at a later date, have my mid-years coming up next week and I'm studying like crazy so I'll write back properly later. I listened to the song, there's parts I do like and parts I don't like, thanks for the suggestion. But yeah, will get back to you more in depth at a later date :D

May 24th, 2010 11:35 AMRogue planetHeard of And So I Watch You From Afar? They're like a math-rock/post-rock mixture, I think you'd like it.

April 4th, 2010 7:32 AMRogue planetHey, sorry about the major delay.Great, I can use this as an excuse for my own (slightly longer) major delay. I was taking revenge. Not really, it's nothing personal I just turned into a cyber-hermit.
All 'horror' movies I watch are more humorous than scary, some just make me jump a bit when I'm not paying much attention then suddenly there's a load of screaming, but that's as good as it gets for scariness. Haha @ running through the hallway, but don't worry I've done similar things before aswell.
There's not many people really worth communicating with, I don't blame you. The Edmund Fitzgerald, can't say I've listened to them, but I'll try them out some time seeing as I quite enjoy math rock. My personal favourite math rock band is This Town Needs Guns.
Wellm it's on my list of "things to do when I stop being a lazy loser" maybe I'll actually put some effort into it someday. -
February 9th, 2010 11:33 PMEliminator Jr.Hey, sorry about the major delay. Homework's been crazy this past week, that and internet was blocked for a while because I kept turning up late to school so yeah.
I can't really say the movies I watch are even scary, like The Strangers for instance. So predictable and I've watched like four scary movies in my life. But yeah, for like a full month after that navigating the hallway from my bedroom to the bathroom at night was just running, hoping that the guy with the mask isn't hiding around the corner. So I guess it's more paranoia than anything :S
I don't really VM other people much or attempt to join in with people on the forums I guess, as much as I'd like to believe it's awesomeness XD but thanks! Do you like The Edmund Fitzgerald much? I've just been listening to them for so long but I don't know any other fans apart from one of my friends, and I figured they'd be pretty well known considering the link to Foals but not many people seem to listen to them. Anyway, they've been influencing the music I write massively in the past few months.
Shame about the instrument thing, but if you get the chance you should definitely start playing. It's a lot easier than it sounds. Like I taught myself all of the instruments I play (that's to say everyone can do it, not to brag). It's just cost that stops most people. But you can probably get like a second hand guitar really cheap, like less than $100 (or whatever that is in pounds in England), off eBay if you want to start and just learn by playing songs you like. But yeah, not everyone enjoys playing music as opposed to just listening to it so it's really up to you.
But yeah, massive fan of your music taste. Well most artists anyway :D -
February 7th, 2010 9:18 AMRogue planetIf you can recommend me a genuinely scary movie I will be pleased, because I haven't managed to find a good one yet.
The majority of members are too intimidated by your awesomeness to VM you, imo. olol, I don't listen to Art Zoyd that much, I just made a thread about the most obscure band I could think of.
No, I'm too usless to know how to play an instrument. :[ I saw you posted about knowing how to play multiple instruments, so I'm insanely jealous now.
