Sorry about that; most people I talk to don't know what it is. But yeah, it's annoying that chained or bred shinies don't work, as those are the most popular ways to get them outside of RNGing...

Well, good luck with getting a shiny anyway :)

    Cool, thanks.

...yeah, I know about the RNG method. People who use it act like it's some big secret; I think more people are informed than you think. The issue arises when chainable/hatchable shinies don't work for getting the SID without an AR or pokesav :/...so only a select few can use the method. Then there's some people who are turned off by the long topic and don't bother...

Yeah, the stats are randomised each time. The Giratina I encountered in the Distortion World was non-shiny; however, in Turnback Cave, it was shiny.

By the way, if you know your secret ID (yes, you can calculate it without cheating, provided you've already caught a shiny Pokémon), there's not much point in SRing normally. You can exploit the predictable nature of the random number generator to get a shiny much more easily; it took me about half an hour to find Giratina, and I had to find it 4 more times afterwards (I failed to catch it the first four times). You also get to influence the nature and IVs (in this case, mine was Bold, with IVs of 29/x/31/31/31/22).

Cool, so do you happen to know if the game pulls a new shiny number when you re-encounter them? 'cause you could EV train with the Regis while searching for a shiny one...

Yeah, in Platinum, all KOed legendaries (other than Regice, Regirock and Registeel) respawn if you beat the Elite 4. I did it with Giratina (reappears in Turnback Cave), and my brother with Dialga. The Regis respawn immediately (leave the cave, and go back in; you need to step on the floor panels again, though). The only ones I'm not sure on are the roaming ones, but I think someone tested it with those, and it also works (they start roaming again after beating the E4).

After you beat the Elite 4 again, Dialga will reappear if you KOed it (my brother tested this, and it works).
Interesting...are you 100% sure about that? Knock out Dialga, catch Palkia, beat the E4, and Dialga magically reappears...?
