October 19th, 2013 9:59 AMAquacordeI don't really know anything about him. Apparently he's an accomplished and well-known actor already, which is different than most Doctors. But he's been a Who fan for a long time, so... I'm going to reserve judgement for when I see him in action. I want to know if he's going to be a good Doctor in spite of the scripts he'll be given.

October 19th, 2013 9:24 AMEsperYeah, pretty much that. I wasn't such a big fan of RTD at first, but looking back I kind of miss what he did with the characters. Oh, and on that note, I'm not really impressed with their pick of the next Doctor.

The main issues I think are how he handles women and how he makes the show p much about him. -
October 19th, 2013 9:18 AMEsperTheir home movie will probably look better than their actual run in the series.
Yeah, I used to like Moffat. Now I really don't at all. -
October 19th, 2013 9:08 AMAquacordeHopefully, but considering Moffat's attitude toward Classic I wouldn't be so sure. Peter and Colin have said they're making a home movie in their basement for it though and there's the Big Finish special as well so yeah.

October 19th, 2013 8:49 AMEsperSeeing so much of the classic series is going to make the 50th special a lot more fun, I hope.

October 19th, 2013 8:05 AMAquacordeNaaah that's part of the enjoyment tbh. I like it still, but seeing faults and still enjoying the production is part of being a fan. Seeing where it could have been better and where it was exceptional, seeing what they've done and the reasoning behind it. It's great tbh.

October 18th, 2013 4:44 PMEsperMy friend has this guidebook to early episodes which gives a lot of info on the production, problems serials had, squabbles with writers, and that sort of things. Each serial also has a section called "Things That Don't Make Sense." It was sometimes a lot more fun to read about all the problems than to watch the episodes themselves.
I feel like a bad fan for knocking on all of this, but not really. -
October 17th, 2013 6:08 PMAquacordeTalk about fillers lmao. I guess they were thinking only of the budget.
-
October 17th, 2013 9:08 AMEsperMy personal favorite waste of time was whenever the Doctor and companion get captured by whatever, escape, then get captured again. No need to progress with the plot and, hey, squeezed in another episode.
-
October 17th, 2013 6:14 AMAquacordeYeah. Oftentimes it was like.... recap of last episode, minimal progression, cliffhanger/preview for next episode. Like- I'm remembering the Sea Devils particularly here- there was one episode that p much had Three and Jo going to the next plot point in a boat and that was it for like fifteen minutes is2g.

October 16th, 2013 10:26 PMEsperSo it's not just me! I'm sure I fell asleep on several occasions. I gotta say, if nothing else, they could have worked on their pacing. I don't care how cheap the aliens, how many recycled costumes from BBC period pieces, how many times they end up in a jungle, if they could have moved things along just a little faster it would have been 10 times better.
-
October 16th, 2013 6:33 PMAquacordeOhhh I know. Sometimes it drags and I fall asleep and drop off watching for weeks. Like I did with one of the Pertwee serials. I was trying to watch all of his in order but then it took me three weeks to get through a serial cause I kept falling asleep and yeah.
-
October 16th, 2013 10:11 AMEsperIt took a really, really long time to get through so much. I mean, if you're enjoying it things move faster, but some of these serials are just... they make you wonder why the series wasn't canceled sooner.

October 15th, 2013 4:55 PMAquacordeAh fair enough. I was skipping around but dropped off watching anything really. Someday I'll watch everything in order!
