April 28th, 2012 10:05 PMlx_theoOh, shoot, i didn't realized I had waited this long to reply, lol. My bad.
I suppose its introductory to concepts before piling on the math. The math itself is really just numerical expressions of the concepts, so it would be a helpful, I guess.
Yeah, school fees are a bit of a blight on everyone. There is a lot of financial aid given out, though people like me whose parents make decent money and have saved up some get nada! Other than the few academic scholarships I've gotten, everything has to be paid for by me and my parents :( . Ultimately my goal is to come out of college with no debt. -
April 22nd, 2012 12:08 PMNikNaksIt really is! I don't really know why we're doing this course. There must be one with some more mathematical content in it. But there you go.
True, but it cuts a year off most degrees over here, and that's a lot of school fees you don't have to pay. -
April 21st, 2012 5:10 PMlx_theoThat's... odd. Especially the Medical and Astronomy stuff. Seems a bit lacking of much of the major parts of physics. Newtonian stuff is the basics for much of physics, but is largely useless without vectors.
So many people change their degrees, even majorly (like Engineering to Psychology or something), its a good thing to have general classes early on. -
April 17th, 2012 8:30 AMNikNaksWell, we do some basic Newtonian stuff, SHM, and a little bit of electromagnetism. I think we do have a sine and cosine in a couple of formulae, but it's still really basic stuff. No calculus, though, or anything to do with vectors. Most of the stuff we do with heat is just qualitative, too. And then we have strange ones on Astronomy and Medical, which just seem to be time-fillers. It's disappointing, really.
Heh, I think I'm lucky over here. We only have to do what we want to study at uni, and anything else can just be ignored. You don't have to do any general classes, but there's no way of avoiding classes by doing exams now, which is different, I suppose. It's interesting how different the systems are. -
April 16th, 2012 6:12 PMlx_theoThat is a shame. While my class isn't involving Calculus, it still uses more advanced algebra and stuff. What topics do you cover, mind you? It'd be hard to do anything with motion without using trigonometry
Yep, gen ed classes are a requirement. Eases you into specialization over time. They do give you a good chance to try to get college credit out of college (and subsequently reduce the price of tuition by not needing those classes). -
April 16th, 2012 4:57 AMNikNaksIf I'm honest, my Physics class is really straightforward. We don't do anything mathematical - the hardest we do is exponential decays - so it's just a load of learning stuff and not really doing any Physics. :/ It's a shame, really.
Oh, yeah, you guys have to start off doing all-round things, don't you. Ouch. -
April 15th, 2012 1:22 PMlx_theoSpeaking of Physics, how do you like Thermo? Isn't it so fun and straight forward :P
Same, one more reason i want to get it out of the way before I take a chance of an actual college class challenging me on the subject, lol -
April 14th, 2012 7:34 AMNikNaksWell, I'm studying Maths & Physics at university, but I don't know where I want to go after that. Hopefully something varied. :3
Hey, that sounds interesting, to be honest. I never did History because I hated essays. xD -
April 12th, 2012 6:19 PMlx_theoI agree, Engineering is very cool, lol. You studying for a career or plan to?
As for the length. Yes, it is a long time. We basically only cover the major periods and the major player's with the occasional chapter on how culture and such was changing. -
April 11th, 2012 1:22 PMNikNaksAh, cool! Engineering is great. :D
And, well. That's a heck of a long time to cover! -
April 9th, 2012 12:40 PMlx_theoI planned to major in Mechanical Engineering, and hopefully go for a Doctorate after that.
As for what it covers. Its from the Renaissance to Modern Era. -
April 8th, 2012 9:55 AMNikNaksOh, okay. So what're you doing at college?
Ah, neat! Is it sort of Napoleonic era stuff? -
April 7th, 2012 7:16 AMlx_theoI may have misunderstood some. I'm also taking AP Physics and PC Calculus. Those are the ones I;m taking the AP Test for. Like I said, I'm trying to not take the AP tests that relate my college major so I can make sure I get a more proper and thorough education on those subjects.
And yes, England is one of the countries I'm learning about, lol. -
April 6th, 2012 1:58 PMNikNaksHeh. I have no idea why, but I was expecting something more scientific. o.O Euro History? Learning about my country? :3
